CRB check

Hi all, quick one, I'm thinking of applying for a new job, same sector but working in a hospital.

However it requires a disclosure check thing, but I got a reprimand when I was 17. I was told this would be wiped when I turned 18, but is this the case?

Yep, it will have been wiped when you were 18. Also, a reprimand/caution is not a criminal conviction therefore you are not at liberty to disclose such information. If you are asked its always best to 'come clean', but it will certainly not show up on the CRB check.

public sector application forms usually require details of any time spent in the company of the plice, including cautions.

be trueful and state you were reprimanded at 17, the reason (public disturbance etc) that way if it does get mentioned on a CRB check (and that will depend on the type of CRB check that is carried out and what the reprimand was for) you are covered and not caught out with lying by omission.
It doesnt necessarily have to be put on your application form but via an informal chat with the team advertising the job, to get an idea if it would affect the job application.

CRB is simply the department that carrys out the check.
There are 2 main types of check - The CRC and the CTC.
Make sure you are clear what is being asked for first.

If its for a CRC (criminal records check) then I would recommend that you DO NOT reveal that you were reprimanded.
UNLESS specifially asked for it.. ie: if the application form itself says "have you ever been reprimanded".

The reason I say this is that the CRC check wil NOT show any spent convictions or reprimands. (note: certain convictions are never spent .. such as murder, rape, serious assault ,etc)

You have obviously moved on and there is no need for you to drag this up again - so dont own up to something they are not asking you to!
It may be nice to think that its all private and decent being open - but life isnt like that and it could act against you later in your career / life.

However, a CTC (counter terrorist check) is different.
This is usually required by those working in Airports or

Would be helpful if you could tell us what the job was.

I was meant to be helping with my mums youth group, and I did when I was 15 (they're like 6-10) but then when I turned 16 I couldn't because The CRB would have revealed drugs convictions.

You can have them done pre-18.
People in my 6th form (16/17) are having them for Duke Of edinbourough etc, if part of their corse means working with children.

The last clearance level I was put in for by a company I worked for involved far worse checks than what you're going to have to do, they interviewed you and members of your family, checked bank accounts and your financial history, in detail. Checked your ISP for any suspicious activity, phone records. They left no stone unturned, literally! Some people even said your phone got tapped when you gained the clearance. Afterwards you are constantly being monitored for anything and everything that could indicate a threat.

I'd been arrested a few times and been banned from driving etc etc blah blah and it didn't worry me.

As long as it's nothing serious like armed robbery, sex offending etc then you'll be ok, trust me

I think this is pretty standard now for anyone working with children or 'vulnerable adults'. I wouldn't worry about it even if it did show up (which by the sounds of the very informative post above it won't). They aren't trying to suss you out, just covering thier backs. Even if you nicked a car or smacked someone I don't think it would affect your chances of getting the job. They just want to check you don't have previous convivtions for sticking your willy into comatose old people or something, which would obviously cause problems if they were to let you loose in a hospital.
