Maybe this should be in random banter, but i was thinking wouldn't it be great if Triumph make a 125 triple. A baby triple would look the shit as they say.
Wonder what bhp a 125cc triple could make. And it's sure to sound like a nasty mosquito. ____________________ Diabolical homemade music Bandcamp and Soundcloud

Why make it a triple though? Sadly it'd go the way of the CBR and be a single; which is to be fair all the market seems to want.
As a triple it'd be overpriced and expensive to service as well as still being slow compared to the two strokes, I expect.
I don't see why it would look good or not because it was a triple; seeing that you'd expect the engine to be hidden, presuming it's a sports bike . As far as copying the design goes <shrugs>, seemed to work for Yamaha and the 675 is quite pretty.
A 300-400cc triple could be interesting if made quite light and I reckon would definitely get some sales in if sold with deals for 33hp riding.
However if it was made to a similar level as the 675, I doubt it'd cost much less, which would leave it a rather narrow market. |

4 cylinder bikes can have less mid-range, but so can twins etc; it's generally to do with the bike's intended purpose, not the number of cylinders. Definitely not always the case fours have less midrange than similar twins (I have got graphs to prove it ) and not sure what you mean by singles having poor power delivery; they generally make less power, but they could make more from a single cylinder 125 if they wanted.
2 strokes are cheap to service, while a 125cc triple would be expensive and fiddly.
The street triple was voted best naked bike probably because it has a good chassis and suspension; it's also relatively very expensive, to pay for this. Something they can't really do in a 125. |

If Triumph made 125 triples that were learner legal then it would surely help new starters learn how to fix bikes quicker wouldnt it?**
**I know its an outdated stereotype that isnt strictly true (marjay) but I couldnt help it, Ive even enjoyed riding a triumph once ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

If triumph tried to make a 125cc it would end up a 142cc
Their "600" is a 675 and their 1000 is 1050
Seriously though, I don't think there is much of an advantage to a 3cyl 125. Making a tripple engine that small would mean each cyl would be 41cc in size and you would have to make a crank strong enough and small enough to link them. Its possible but its going to be expensive.
There are a few 125 twins on the market but most people treat a 125 as a step to a bigger bike.
If the Ninja 250 sells out again this year, maybe a few other manufacturers will look at sub-500cc bikes again and we could have some cool 33bhp bikes on the market. ____________________ Somebody give that windup merchant a torque wrench.. |
