Hi guys,
Just wondering: whenever I'm in the mood for a bit of speed and rev my bike fairly hard off of the lights, the Oil warning lamp on the speedometer comes on for the next 10 seconds or so. Is this alright, or I am flogging it too hard / the bike needs some attention. (Hope not: I only bought it recently!!) Also, every so often when I'm stopped up just idling over, the light will sometimes flicker on and off. Same question basically: is this a bad sign of anything, or nothing to worry about at all. Don't actually know anyone else with an NSR at all, so I thought I'd try posting...

Not sure of the precise model of my pic, so I posted a pic in the last thread I started: https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=24889

Thanks a bunch! Smile
tom.

It means that you are getting low on 2 stroke oil. Fill it up with some good quality semi-synthetic or full sythetic.

If you let the 2 stroke run out the engine will seize.

Hmm, I've definitely been keeping my oil topped right up. I'm pretty sure I bought quality stuff as well: Got it from Infinity, called something like Fuchs!?? (Am useless with names!)

Topped it up last night, will see if the same thing is happening over the weekend... Is it possible that the flow of oil to the engine isn't working as well as it should?? Confused

tom.

The warning light is connected to a sender unit on the 2 stoke tank itself.

Are you sure that you filled the 2 stroke (tank is under the rear seat on the left) and not the gearbox oil (on the engine)?

Yep, definitely the one under the seat!

Wasn't even aware of gearbox oil -- how often does that need topping up!?

Hi

Sounds most likely that the oil level sensor is failing, so check the oil level manually and regularly. The oil light only refers to the level of 2 stroke oil in the tank, and does not mean anything about oil pressure of flow of oil to the engine.

Fuchs = Silkolene.

The gearbox oil should rarely if ever need topping up on a 2 stroke.

All the best

Keith
