Bank Transfer

Just a quickie, how safe is it? I see everyone banging on that it's 100% safe but I fail to understand when I have to give my account number and sortcode out to a complete stranger??

Any advice, I did say cheque but he needs the item fast.

Erm considering that account numbers and sort codes are on the bottom of cheques , and I have an account specifically for this purpose (with very little in it) for money dump purposes. I assume its relatively safe as what can they do with it? , other than maybe attempt to setup a DD to a charity or something.


Forgot to say DD has a guarentee on it anyway to prevent DD's being setup , that said I've never actually tested that guarentee myself.

I always use it for paying bills and works ok. Least yu have the proof on your bank statement here your money went if there is bother. Not had ever any bother with it.

We (our business) called the bank as someone wanted to pay by bank transfer, and the bank said it was the safest method of payment there is.

It's perfectly safe to pay/ recieve by bank transfer. You only need to supply the sortcode and account number (names a good idea) all of which are on a cheque.
The payments are traceable.
Someone could try to set up a direct debit but even if it suceeded you could claim back under the direct debit guarntee. Only authorized at checked companies can have dd so they you can get one to private account.

Since I've got my car and bike for sale, now bank transfers take hours, rather than days, would it be a better idea than cash due to fake notes? (Got caught out like this before) Or is there some clever scam with these too?

I'm just about to pay for a pushbike to someone i've never spoken to before using internet bank transfer. It's easy and quick. Safe as feck as well.

I have a seperate account specifically for it, not necessarily needed but I'd rather just keep my main account number to myself, I don't pay by cheque much so nobody really get's it. As we know a direct debit can be setup with just the account number and sort code so it's as a seperate account is free you may aswell.

Went through with it in the end and as said all has been fine. Nice not having to pay paypal fees for a change and nice not waiting 5 days for it to transfer to my bank account will be doing this again lol
