You may find that you get it a bit rounder with a trackday.
However, newer rubber offers a more consitent feel, so can offer more confidence.

Could always look at getting some cheap race scrubs, then changing later.

Unless you have a decent amount of meat left on the tyres you may well find you'll be riding back in illegal tyres. Trackdays tend to eat through road tyres and brake pads quite quickly.

I had a new set of Dunlop sportmaxx qualifiers on the ZZR and they'd only done about 1000 miles before I got a hole in the rear (so had them plugged) and then took the bike out on the track.

The tires were chucking out loads of chunks of rubber during the day and looked very scuffed by the time I headed home. As long as you have about 2000 miles left on them then they'll be fine before you go...

If you were going to get tyres straight AFTER trackday, then you might as well get them just before ... as G said, new rubber gives you a lot more feel etc. But also consider that the bits that will get worn is the far edges that you probably won't be wearing on the road .. the middle bit will remain virtually untouched ...

So you are not wearing out any part of the tyre that you need (for the road) and the added bonus is that you get to 'wear' a chewn up rear for the rest of the tyres life (on the road) and look cool!! Thumbs Up

I definately recomend new tires.... is it really worth watching your bike slide down the track for a couple hundred bucks?

So you spend 'a couple of hundred bucks' and throw your bike down the track at higher speed with the new rubber, instead Confused.

You can only ride to the limits of grip you have. The first trackday I was at I only realised my tyres were knackered after I'd done it and someone else rode the bike.
It meant I could feel what the limits felt like in a safer environment where everything happens a bit slower.
I might not have been able to react to the slides so well had I had brand new slicks on, or similar.

I wholeheartedly disagree! ....

Fresh GOOD rubber lets you get away with so much more and is a LOT more confidence inspiring. A noob is going to sh1t it before they exceed the limits of fresh track rubber ... unless they are a total knob and wind it full on mid-corner or summin, but then they deserve to go down don't they!! Very Happy

You go out there on sh4gged inappropriate road rubber ... its not going to be hard to exceed the limits.

Sure if you are experienced enough, its not a problem as you ride to the grip ... but that isn't always going to be the way is it ...

worn rubber will slide alot more on the track if your not use to it scares the crap out of you and it still does me, i remember the front tyre sliding on me at paddock hill bend on my old 2cts i nearly decided to pack up for the day as it was the bad.

new rubber for the track is the way to go if you can like blue says, if you getting the tyre sliding on you then it will hamper your confidence and less likely to go as fast as you want or can.
