Thats where I disagree. Until cyclists are insured and licensed in some way keep them off the roads. If a cyclist rides into me while I'm on the road why should it be ME that forks out for the damage? Why should I be the one that gets the blame irrespective of fault?

Exactly what happened to a mate of mine. Cyclist strayed into his path knocking them both off + as he was only TPF+T he couldn't do a thing about it. Thumbs Down

I think there's some mad drivers/riders out there whatever vehicle theyre using, saw a car once go onto the pavement of a busy road, to get past some traffic jammed in front, let alone the guy on the program complaining of a bike doing it Smile

That woman who rode to work on her pedal bike had obviously brain washed her kids to say "and motorists don't see us", why do they only put posh people on the programs. On average though i'd say truck drivers are more aware than car drivers, and obviously a car/truck driver who has a bike licence is greatly aware Smile

Went to the BMF in a van on sunday cause friends bike was in bits, loads of bikes waving thanks when we pulled in a lot as the bikes came past, which is nice Smile Sat on a hayabusa and a r1, very nice, may be getting an r1 next year, not sure yet, bandits fine for me at the moment

So far i've not done that to anyone. If I somehow did it to a cage that I didn't know, I might consider getting them to pay, but if I did it to someone I know or someone on a bike, i'd empty my bank account for them. Also, when i've got my cage license, I'll move pull over at lights for any bike that rides sensibly. (maybe not peds though) Certainly don't want the mirrors on my mg Midget getting bashed, they will just break off! (Things so low you will be able to kick them if I did piss you off!)
Irresponsible car drivers are a nightmare to me as well, even on a pushbike. Especially buses. Going down a hill that shouldn't be a bus route anyway, going for a large gap between a parked car and the bus, bus driver doesn't see me, pulls over MUCH further than he needed to, I lock brakes, somehow miss the bus and the parked car and end up with flat spots on my tires and feeling very shaken Sick .
If a cage drives past me stupidly they always get a Middle Finger and a Evil or Very Mad
I think car drivers should have to take a re-test ever year to assess their driving and ban them if they drive stupidly!

Completely impossible. The system could NEVER cope with that and no-one will foot the bill. I'd much rather see cyclists tested and insured first.

A very good idea, but also impossible. Many people (eg 4 year old who lives down my road) can't pay for insurance and will the parents really pay however much? Also, with the thousands of cyclists about it would be hard to test them all!
All the best ideas never seem to be possible. (Thats life I suppose)

Only those that want to ride on the road should be insured/tested. There are far more drivers than people wanting to cycle on the roads - and they're all tested. And you suggested making them take a re-test every year.

Hi

Some form of insurance for cyclists would be a good idea. OK most already have it (through house insurance), but if this was more widely known then there would be more fairness in the event of a claim and less likelyhood that the cyclist will just be paid out to as they have no insurance to claim off.

All the best

Keith
