What does this mean?

Have bought a new game(R factor) and when i try to play it i get this message "no support for texture compression found.DXT compression required",it gives me a few links to go to but they don't seem to help,anyone know whats wrong?

meets the spec other than the geforce or radeon thing and the directx9,i may have these but not sure as i haven't a clue what they are

tbh haven't a clue i assumed the video card was the graphics card so maybe i don't have one should i just take the game and my pc to the computer shop and say "make this play that game" or will i get ripped off due to my lack of knowledge?

Yes you will, or if you take it back to a shop that just sells games probably get told to sod off.

Go to the start menu and then "Run" and type dxdiag and press enter.

At the bottom of the first page it will tell you which version of Direct X you're running, if it's old update it, it's free. Then click on the "Display" tab and it will tell you what video card you have under the "Device" heading, post it on here and someone will tell you whether it supports texture compression.

Think i just found the problem read the wrong bit for my video card it's only 32mb is an nvidia riva tnt2 model64 pro,and i have directx 9 should i just try a new video card as it's obviously a lot lower spec than it needs to be

Well there's no way in hell you can run the above mentioned game on a Riva TNT2 32mb so, that's about the same vintage as Voodoo2/3 which I remember buying about 10 years ago

funnily enough my pc was bought in 99,and the only time it was ever upgraded was when it first went online and i can't remember what they did to it(and also the usual stuff ie flatscreen,better speakers,printers etc.But i suppose after 10yr it's served it's purpose(which was to browse the internet and store music,pictures etc),have never played games on it as i've always had games consoles for that however i'm sick to f****n death of buying the best console for it to be s**t a yr down the line because a new one's been released,so upgrading my pc to play games seemed a better option.However i really can't be arsed with all this upgrading b****cks so i'm gonna head to pc world this afternoon and buy a new one,what can i expect for about £400(only buying tower my monitor and everything else are pretty good)

I wouldn't buy from PC world, myself. There are far better sources on the net, particularly if you just want the PC and no monitor/keyboard etc.
