Hello all!

What should they do on the first service?

I booked my bike in for its first service today and they started to talk about changing the oil and the spark plug (wich ill have to pay for) is this the norm?

Is there anything i should ask them to do or check whilst its there?

Also when my bike is warming up (before i ride it) and its on choke it smokes realy bad, it fills the garage with blue smoke in seconds, is this normal?

Could this be because i havent been using full power and its getting a bit oiled up?

Thanks for all your help!!

Hi

Oil change and new plug is about it for a first service. They should also probably also go over the bike checking for anything getting loose (it is a new bike), and may also clean the air filter out.

If the bike will idle without the choke then turn the choke off. With the choke on extra fuel is being fed in (this is to compensate for a cold engine, as the cool parts of the engine will cause the incoming petrol to condense on them, so not enough attomised fuel with the intake air), and this will choke the plug up and coke the exhaust up. Also, petrol is very effective at removing oil, so running on choke for too long will increase engine wear (more of a problem on 4 strokes).

Oh, careful with running the bike in the garage, inless you want carbon monoxide poisoning.......

All the best

Keith

Hey there...

I was just wondering if you could tell me how long it took you to get up to 500/600 miles in the running in process?

Cheers,

Tin

Hi tin

I got my bike just before christmas, but being pissed up over the holidays, the crap weather and having to spend time with the girlfriend(she thinks im to old to start biking - im 23) it took me ages!

Up until this weekend i had only done 400 miles, but sunday i did a run to boxhill and spent all day riding around and did 200 miles easy!

Im doing boxhill again next sunday thats 100mile round trip, and now the weathers getting better (touching wood) the miles should clock round quite quick.

I was a good boy and kept bellow 5000rpm (most of the time) for the first 400miles, then went to 6-6500, only going up into the powerband on the odd ocasion.

R U runnin in a new bike? if so how u getting on?

seeya
