A motorcyclist caught on a speed camera pulling an 82mph wheelie in a 30mph zone has been banned from driving.

Steven Skilton, 22, of Bitterne, Southampton, was captured seven times exceeding 30mph in Maybray King Way and Northam Bridge in the city.

On three of those occasions he reached speeds of more than 80mph

that is just asking for it Laughing Laughing theres having a laugh and theres this..why would you do that Laughing one yea..7 times?

This is, I expect, a good explanation of why I think it's a bad idea to speed through forward-facing cameras, despite the fact they can't get your numberplate.

True.

I've also noticed a lot of Gatso's on main roads now have cctv pointing up and down the road in the same are. Probably to have video footage of the drive coming towards the camera and afterwards to prove who was driving.

Ah well, that'll teach him. Could you imagine ringing up Bennets asying you ad 39 points! lol Shame they will be removed when he gets his licence back!

Indeed. Points get cleared from the "totting up" total after 3 years but remain countable in court and for insurance purposes for 5 years.

I don't get why that would be the case? 18 months is only half way to the 3 year mark. Considering that 36 points were for speeding I don't see why they would be removed any quicker than for any other motorist.

some people would say it was his own fault but i still feel sorry for him. feck! how many points. Thing is i see the fun police state that he was riding out of control.. sorry mate but pulling an 82 mph wheelie safley shows he is very much able to be in control!

so having 50% of the tyres in contact with the road and having about 20% of the usual braking power is fully in control?
I love a wheelie but im not blindfolded enough to think its as controlled as sedately riding along at 30mph. Laughing

How about a rider of a classic bike who has both wheels on the ground, but with terrible brakes compared to the GSXR and tyres that would have trouble getting traction on a bed of nails?
Could they be said to be 'fully in control' compared to the GSXR rider?

No you have a point, def not as in control as riding both wheels as 30mph. Mind you it could be said that it is as your mind (should) be fully concentrating on a wheelie whereas i think people would admit that riding at 30mph your mind wanders slightly rather than focused on the job! I just think a well executed wheelie is all about control. (Am not talking about novice wheelie people like myself but expert ones.)

Going back to physics for a second(I failed) surely if you only have half the tyres in contact with the road, then you only need half the brakes so if the only tyre on the road has its breaks then you are technically still using 100% of your brakes me lud!

Seen this guy and yes he pulls wheelies at high speeds almost anywhere.
Once in the high street in Southampton must of been doing at least 50-60

Yeah spoke to a local CID bloke - Basically a bolt from his screen was missing and thats what they had to go on + his jacket only being 1 of a few in the country I beleave

How badly did you fail physics Wink

Infact it is the exact oposite you only have 1 wheel on the ground but you still have to use the same force to slow the bike down... only now because you have 1 braking force on the bike instead of 2 it will dramatically increase the disance you take to stop. (this is only the general gist of things)

The cynicist in me thinks that he chose that place specifically. Thinking forward facing cams cant get him, decides to give Middle Finger to the law. Once is bad, but doing it 6 times really is asking for trouble.
