Need help weighing out costs

Why do things have to be so complicated

I'm not really sure what to do, mostly because of stupid insurance prices. Here's what I got so far:

- Daytona 600, £2,500 to buy with 30k on the clock, FSH - Insurance £400 TPO

- J/G ZX6R, GSXR 600, CBR 600, £2k or less to buy with around 30k on the clock - Insurance £1080 TPO

I'm not sure what to do, pay more for the bike or more on insurance. With the Triumph there is only ONE at that price but they come out cheapest on insurance.

I can't go for a shitter because the next bike I get I'll be stuck with for the next 2/3 years due to other things

How old are you? I'm guessing quite young if your insurance is that high.

From your sig I'm guessing you'd have to restrict all of those bikes anyway, so why not just buy a cheaper (non-sports) bike and have that for a year or two paying cheaper insurance and building up no-claims. Not like your missing out on power if you're restricted anyway, and it doesn't have to be a shitter.

Once you've built up no claims, fulfilled your restricted period and got a bit older, you'll be able to own a sports without getting bum-raped on insurance.

I will be 19 in June. I have looked at non sports like Hornets, Monsters, FZ's but they come out at about £800 tpo. 400's come out quite cheap too but what puts me off is the age, high mileage and people have said parts could be hard to get and the Honda V4's are hard to work on

Triumph insurance quotes always come out cheap for me compared to the jap bikes, no idea if that is a good price, only 2 came up on biketrader and thats the cheapest one

If I'd spent £2-2.5k on a bike, I wouldn't insure it tpo.

When I was looking earlier this year something like a cb500 or a bandit was going to be £3-400 tpft.

to be honest, i would wait.... get some more road time on a cheaper bike that aint costing the earth and wait til you have some no claims bonus then buy yourself a decent bike.. chances are you may have a few bumps n stuff as you have not long done your test n stuff, would be a shame to do that on a bike that will cost you the earth in plastic alone. And also to have to restrict a sports bike! sod that!

Hornet 250, £118 years insurance TPFT, 3 NCB...

Puts out close to 33bhp so takes restriction quite well. Power only stops to drop at around 14,000rmp but revs fine to the limiter of 17,500rmp

Does 80 pretty much everywhere, had 110mph on the clocks (on a private road). And mine is only putting out 28.2bhp...

Try even less sporty bikes than the IL4 600 nakeds. Stuff like CB and GS500s. Admittedly I'm 21 but I could insure any of the 500 twins for less than £100, with only 1 full years' bike NCB.

Other bikes to try might be the 92-01 Honda CB750, the Kawasaki Zephyr range and the Kawasaki ZR-7. None of which are in the least bit sporty but well within your budget and should be cheaper to insure.

You might find insurance more affordable on bikes over 10 years old. No need for an older bike to be a shitter so long as it's been well cared for.

I did my test in Feb but have been riding since last year. The problem I have is that I'm only looking to travel about 100miles for one, and also if it's too far and it's a private sale i'm not sure how to get it back home as I don't know anyone who rides and also getting it restricted will also come into it.

I'm looking in 400's as well to see if there's anything there. I found and NC30 from the same place I got my CBR, 25k on the clocks, mint condition for £1600 - that may be an option

No matter how hard I try everything leads back to one bike...the good old SV650, fits my budget, cheap insurance and takes restriction well. Not perfect but I reckon it'll have to do

Are you phoning the insurance companies or just doing online quotes? I found that I got far better quotes when actually ringing the companies up. You can also then play them off each other to get the best deal possible unlike if doing it online.
