Buying things from the US often gives you hidden import tax, usually based on the weight. So beware!

could prove extremely costly as they would be shipped in via airmail.

Import tax is based on the value.

So you're looking at 10% import tax then 17.5% vat on top of the tottal value including import tax I believe.
