my bikes booked in for its m.o.t on tuesday and i thought while it was there they could replace my split link with a soft link, i got both with my last c+s kit and just fitted the split link as i dont have the tools for soft links.

i rang the guy at the shop and asked him if he could do it with the m.o.t and he told me it would be £15. To me this seems a little steep for a 2 min job, is it?

How cheap did you expect it to be? Considering that my local Triumph dealer charges £60 per hour plus VAT I'd say that was reasonable. It will take longer than two minutes, more like a quarter of an hour once he's got your bike in the right place, he's faffed about removing the split link, he's got the soft link in place and lined up the rivetting tool.

considering how much of a faff it is, and how much the soft link tool is, I'd pay the £15 personally.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I'd say the best way to see how reasonable it is, would be to phone other garages up and check, but ultimately, I agree with Marjay. It may be two minutes to fix it, but there's the who faffing about before starting the job that takes the time.
