Yesterday I completed my first 10k race, it was 90% off road, which was pretty annoying as I haven't done any training off road before. Also being in Coventry where it is pretty much flat, I also was lacking in hill experience, the run, in Somerset was very hilly and steep, even seasoned runners were taken aback as to how steep some of the hills were. Suffice to say I really quite struggled, despite my fairly high fitness. I did not walk any of it though, which was good.

I completed it in a miserly 57 minutes 53 seconds. Under the hour which was my aim, but to all intents and purposes I really want a 50 minute under my belt. But it was my first race, so can hardly complain and I did really enjoy the overall competitive experience. I don't like to use excuses, but I think my legs were still struggling a bit from my 3 peaks challenge less than a week before, my knees especially weren't completely satisfied with running. Either way, I aim to increase my training somewhat.

Definately going to get a few more races under my belt this year, have penned in a couple more 10ks and also the Burnham-on-sea half marathon in October.

I know this doesn't interest many, but I do know some people quite enjoy their running.

Nice action shot taken during the run, mid-air FTW.

Good time, you can easily convert that to a sub 50 minute on a completely flat road track. Thumbs Up

Im still crap at 10k's, just managed my first sub 22 minute 5k though so may move up to 10s again now.

Top Stuff JB.

Only one rookie error (from what I can see in the picture)...

I'm impressed with your time for cross country, I'm used to hills but rough terrain really slows you down, especially any mud. It completely breaks your rhythm. Nothing like being properly muddy after a good run though! Thumbs Up
