I honestly can't believe this.

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8088133.stm

Fair enough if your pissed off with Labour/Tory/Lib dems then vote Green, UKIP etc. But BNP?

I'm fairly to the right in my outlook & politics, but I would rather vote labour than the BNP.

That ought to put the cat amongst the pigeons rather effectively.

I see it as a good thing to be honest. They aren't going to wield any real power with one, possibly two seats and it ought to focus the attention of the other parties. A sizeable portion of the electorate obviously feel issues of immigration and EU labour regulations are not being addressed to their satisfaction.

It's essentially a political kick up the arse. I'd say the majority of the people who voted BNP do not agree with their position and do not actually want them to be in power.

Give the electorate more credit. It was a tactical vote for a highly polarised party to force action on these issues. If the other parties take the matter in hand and are seen to do something about it, the BNP vote will evaporate at the next election.

You think zanu-labour or the tories are any better than the fascists? Laughing Laughing Laughing

They're all criminal organizations, presiding over a mock-democracy and enforcing illegal laws onto a slave population. Wake up and smell the coffee.

We are all used to being fucked over by Labour and the Tories.....and we know exactly how they will fuck us over.

Someone else might fuck us over in a different way...maybe even a slightly better way.

No point in kidding ourselves any of them will help us.

If BNP, UKIP etc start gaining seats, it can only send the message the big 2 that they need to sort themselves out, the general public is waking up to their bullshit, and if they don't evolve and atleast be seen to help the public they won't survive!

When was the last time you actually saw Gordon making a public speech? I can't even remember the last time I did!

All part of the joy of PR.

The vast majority of the public voted with their feet at home..... Parties like the BNP get their supporters out and vote. So with PR even though there are not many of then, it is enough to get seats via the PR system... Just never enough for the FPTP system we have in the rest of the elections.

aye, BNP had a much wider audience with everyones slating of them which just made it easier for people to vote.

most people i spoke to who were going on about viting BNP didnt even know about UKIP. all these muppets moaning about them managed to do was give them huge coverage and great PR.

falsified leafets or not everyone knew their name.

hardly surprises me at all really.

I did hear one Labour politician on radio 4 essentially say that the people who voted for the BNP must be stupid.

So, a politician, sitting on national radio tells 943,598 people they are stupid. Thats them told then, they're bound to vote labour next time. Rolling Eyes

What annoys me is that they (Labour) are discounting the UKIP vote as a protest against the expenses debacle. UKIP did not campaign on this point, they campaigned on coming out of the EU. 2.6 million people essentially voted to come out and it is being spun as a protest vote.

Except thatfewer people voted for the BNP than in previous elections - just that much fewer people voted overall and thus they won the majority.
I'd say that it's just the same old BNP supporters voting for them, too many people didn't exercise their right to vote and stayed at home.

I disagree anabella, I think the more Labour keep talking like they have in the above posts, the more they are alienating the general public. As I have said, when was the last time you acutally saw Gordon Brown making a publc speech? When he does he shows all the carisma of a dead newt.

They have lost touch with the public, that's why no-one is voting for them, all the promises of change have proven to be lies. People see the outside parties as a change, I welcome all these parties to become more equal, as competition can only make things better?

Just another question, if this is a democracy, why can't we, the people, vote to change the government, why can Labour stay in power, when clearly very few people want them?

I have a better question: If this is a democracy, why don't we have proportional representation? The current system is a sick joke, and is the main reason so many people no longer bother to vote. One has a simple choice currently; vote for one of the two main gangs of criminal scum, or vote for some other party and see that vote count for absolutely fuck-all.

I have better things to do with my time than tacitly condone such a totally bogus democracy by giving it my vote. It, and it's MPs, can get fucked.

That's what i heard on radio 4 this lunchtime. They didn't gain any more votes, just the amount required to get in dropped as people didn't vote for labour.

It doesn't matter who you vote for because at the end of the day they're always going to shaft someone. Voting is just handing them the stick to beat you with.

More like creating the illusion that you actually have a say so in the way the country is governed. Hence why really, no matter who you vote for, the plans on how they are going to bend you over and stretch your hoop are already well laid. Sure, they might employ people to count the votes and what not, but thats just for show really, they might as well go straight into the fucking shredder.

How so? surely if one of the more extremest partys were to get in there would be a major overhall in the way the country is run, It may not always be for the better but i cant imagine for instance if BNP ever made it into power they would keep things the same as labour have.

The "it wont make a difference anyway" attitude is why things end up so bad in the first place.

The chances of that happening are rather slim, the vast majority are torn between Labour and Tory, with Lib Dems always trailing 3rd. Therefore, both labour and tory have their intentions to stretch ones hoop all planned out.

As opposed to the "excellent, labours in power now, we'll leave it to them to sort this country out in the absolute best way possible (I sure hopes they dont rape my taxes on buying 35 houses and pornography tho....)" attitude?

The country cannot afford to give everyone a decent standard of living, so the different parties have their favoured groups who get a better deal, paid for by stitching up the rest. Short term you can get away with this, but long term you land up driving away those rich companies / individuals who provide the income for the country or you land up destroying the wish to work from large parts of the working population (or if really bad you manage to do both by taxing the companies large amounts to pay for the useless).

All the best

Keith

The problem with you fascists is that you don't really know what fascism is all about. You're too interested in suppressing the views of others to bother finding out.

If you don't like what he has to say, just don't listen to him.

Anyone else find it funny that a group calling itself "Unite Against Fascism" wants to ban the BNP because they don't agree with their views?

That's my point Ste. It never ceases to amaze me that idiots post shit like that on an internet forum without understanding just what it is they are talking about. I mean, I'm no scholar but like yourself, I understand that suppressing someones views is an act of fascism.

Top Tip for fukwits, do a Google search "define fascism" before making a prick of yourself.

No you didn't, but the implication is there by your link, and the fact that you found the situation very amusing, going by the emoticon used.
The link is a report concerning the group 'Unite Against Fascism', who were the egg throwers.

While we're on the subject, here is the ironic quote from that report you linked to, that Ste & cestrian were talking about:-

Members of Unite Against Fascism, a new group supported by trade unions and MPs from all parties including Tory leader David Cameron and veteran left wing campaigner Tony Benn, said they wanted to "defend democracy" against what they regard as the "fascist" and "racist" policies of the BNP.

Now that sounds like facism to me sport.
