Nah, sorry guys, I have to disagree......
I can see I am on my own here, but hey. Wet and dark conditions for any vehicle are more dangerous than clear conditions. And on todays roads I think there are enough dangers to bike riders without adding yet another element of risk to it....! Not only that it lowers other peoples abilities to see you, more often than not, it is a car that hits you and says "I did not see you mate...."
I have been taken off my bike at 30mph in the wet, an incident I am sure I could have avoided if I had better traction. A guy did not see me and pulled out of a junction, he even looked at me so we had eye contact and he still went!
Doing 40mph under very very light acceleration I have almost lost the back end of my bike on some oil or grease, again I am sure in dry conditions this would not have happened.
I do however agree that riding all weathers improves your confidence and abilities, however I maintain it adds more unnecessary risks..... Unless of course this is your only form of transport or you are caught out in the wet.
Put it this way, I would not look out of my window, say, oh it looks like it is about to p1ss down, I am going for a ride.... ____________________ Mr Pants! (Alex or Al)

Yes, you can certainly stack the odds in your favour, wearing proper gear and riding to the conditions, as an extra stacking of odds, I pick good visibililty and good traction days as well....
I used to do it when I had no car, but now it is a sunny day hobby for me.... ____________________ Mr Pants! (Alex or Al)

I remember a few years back getting caught in a hailstorm with hail the size of Maltezers (but not as tasty).
discretion quickly came into play on that occasion and I took refuge under a bridge.

It was only this monday night at 10.30pm I had to go home from a mates house 3 miles from me in the rain and dark. Having only just got slightly experienced in the dry and clear conditions I was absolutely crapping myself. But I just took things easy it was a quietish road and I kept away from the White lines (god they are slippery!) and I just occasionally wipe the visor with my gloves I would never choose to go out in the rain though, unless I had to.
I tell you what though, the most annoying thing was when the car driver forgot to dip beam in his car so I was blinded in the rain! ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Hi
I don't mind riding in the wet with decent gear. The worst thing is that I wear glasses so riding with my visor slighty open means I get water on those (not much, but the odd drop is enough). That really screws up you vision, looking through 2 layers of water covered plastic.
My current Shoei lid is a bit of a pain as it allows water past the seal between the visor and the helmet above your eyes. Not much, but again in the course of a journey it is enough to screw up your vision.
All the best

I imagine most people here have binned there bikes or come to harm when it was sunny compared to it being rainy and dark. You are so much more carefull in the rain and dark so in theory its safer because less people crash in those conditions.

In general i hate riding in rain. My old lid was a bitch for getting steamed up, to the point where it was like looking through frosted glass. My new lid doesn't steam up at all, so I'm au fait with it now, even if it does coat my bike in cack (the rain not my lid). ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!
