Hi I was wondering if anyone was able to help me

have bought an oldaprilia rs50 1999 for my wee brother for his 16th B-day

I bought te bike for £200 and was told that i was seized. I dont know anything about bikes but I fancied a challange lol

Anyway to cut a long story short. I charged the battery and tried the bike after 5 mins it started up. It has enough power to take me up the road and back at 10mph but something sounds wrong.

The engine it very noisy. I removed the spark plug and there seems to be plenty of compression. The noise ounds like something is grinding or lose in the bottom of the engine

So where do I go from here. Any help would be great

Ps take it easy with replys im only a beginner lol

sounds like your crankshaft is fcuked at the very least & as for the compression, i would say you should be doing more than 10mph if it was any good. your going to have to pull the engine out of the bike so get yourself a good workshop manual. if you don't have one then you can download the one for your bike from the thread at the top of the workshop page. to be honest, my advice to you would be to try and pick up a decent 2nd hand engine. aprilla parts are expensive plus your time & the rebuild will probably cost more than the bike is worth. plenty of spares on fleabay, hope this helps.

anything over 90psi or else its probably a robore & new piston. im not even sure if those barrels can be rebored, they maybe those nickel plated ones but i'm not a 100% sure.

Will check it out and let you know. Many thanks

I have been reading the manual and sounds like the main bearings could need replaced but im only guessing at this. Does this sound feasible

that heavy rumbling noise from the bottom of your engine that you described in an earlier post is more than likely worn main bearings but if you're doing an engine rebuild then these will be replaced anyway. you can check for play in them & i'm probably going to get crucified on these pages for telling you this but remove the left engine casing. stick a vicegrips onto the nut in the middle of the flywheel which screws onto the crank & see if you can feel any up & down movement. if you can then you know your mains are banjoed for sure.
