Moto Morini Corsaro Veloce

Right, I've now done two test rides and I love this bike. I was absolutely certain I was going to buy a new one because I want the full 3 years warranty and I like to know where it's been so to speak. But after I got back from my second test ride today, the dealer offered me the test bike (which is on a 58 plate and has done 2500 miles) for £7500 (a £4k saving on new).

I can't find many other second hand ones to compare this with (Autotrader have a few but ebay don't have any) but this seems like a fair price to me. The only thing is this particular bike has been lent to "Fast Bikes" to review on two occasions now. In fact, it's still got tyre blisters from the last time it went round a circuit with them.

Would you let the fact that it's been ragged by lots of regular punters and a load of journos put you off for such a massive saving?

Personally I'm not sure I would ever touch a demo/press bike.

Not sure what the back up's like from Morini either.

Morini offer 3 years warranty on parts and labour and have 6000 mile service intervals. So it's got 2 years left of the warranty.

Have it checked over first by a decent independant mechanic. You should ideally have a full service carried out and new tyres and any other worn consumables replaced by the dealer before you buy. If the bike looks like new cosmetically, then i see no reason why it should not be a sound buy. You obviously need to have the suspension, brakes, chain&sprockets and wheels and bearings checked over first. The steering head bearings, and rear shock should be checked for wear, and make sure that the shock adjusters have not been chewed up by ham fisted trackside adjustments, and that the shock and fork seals show no signs of weeping etc.

Thanks for the advice Big_Ham and Stevo. Now you've listed all the potential problems, I think I'm going to leave it. Amongst other things, I can't stop thinking about how many badly landed wheelies (it wheelies very easily off the power) this test bike must have suffered in it's comparatively short life. At least if I buy a new one it will be my badly landed wheelies. Wink

If you don't mind saying, which dealer has this bike? Is it Red Dog? I wouldn't mind having a look at it, been looking for a Veloce for a couple of weeks. I've rode the standard Corsaro and the Veloce and I think the Veloce is worth every extra penny. Thumbs Up

The Veloce is just amazing isn't it? It's everything that I want in a motorbike; amazing acceleration, character, feel, great attitude, the list goes on... In fact it's your fault I started looking at them in the first place after seeing this thread Very Happy

Yes, but as long as everything works as it should, and that any faults are or will be rectified under warrenty by the dealer, then the other way to look at it is that i could be a well set up bike, that has been nicely loosened up and is running much freer and feels quicker than the average molly coddled owned from new example.

If your saving enough cash to justify having the secondhand bike, then you could most likely afford to replace anything thats not 100%, and possibly upgrade the bike's performance/Handling etc with aftermarket high quality gear , for under the cost of a new std example!

If you can get the VIN number of the bike I can check whether or not it needs any upgrades (I'm a Morini mechanic). I doubt it will need them as it's a later model but it might give you a bit more peace of mind.

I wouldn't worry about it being ex-demo as long as you do as the other guys have said and give it a good look over. I suppose you could take it for another 'test' ride but instead take it somewhere to be looked at?

Thanks Zaphod, but I've decided against it. I joined the Morini owners club and instantly got offered a 1 year old bike with Termi downpipes. After a bit of to-ing a fro-ing I've decided I want to buy new for the warranty and piece of mind. It'll mean a fairly large loan once I sell my R1 but I'll have the bike of my dreams that I will keep for a long time.
