Okay so I'm not expecting someone to be able to identify the fault but just had a bizzare thing happen.

To start with - from time to time my bike doesn't start, get the ignition light on and press the start button nothing happens, if I hold the button in or try again it then starts. Otherwise it starts without fail. I've been putting this down to the battery needing a top up charge but haven't quite got round to it yet!

Went to go out from work at 12 today, got to the bike and it did the usual, ignition light comes on but the bike won't start. I try again and again, turn the cut out switch off and making sure it's on okay try again - still nothing. So I think the battery is buggered. I go back into work to find a mate to give me a jump start but he's not around, so I go back to the bike to get my bag and give up thinking I'll try again later.
Then I decide to give it one last try, still same as before nothing. I the turn the lights on to see how bright they are, they look fine so I try to start the bike again... and it starts instantly, with the lights on! So I turn the lights off, switch the engine off and try starting it again. It start again instantly and for the next 3 times I do that it starts. I'm frazzled!? Question Confused

I can only think the battery has decided to go loopy or it's time to start checking all the electrical connections and making sure they're good...

Is there a click when you try to start the bike from Starter solenoid? Or a dirty contact on the starter switch maybe?

The battery should be ok as it is charged every time you ride the bike.

No, when the bike won't start it doesn't make any clicking noise. I press the starter button and the ignition light just dims, then brightens again when I release the button. When it does start the bike always kicks in at the 1st or 2nd turnover, it's very good for that! Thumbs Up

Could be a poor earth connection for the ignition switch, or a sticky relay.

In which case the battery is fine, as it is turning the engine over fast enought to fire. I would put my mortgage on the starter circuit and the fact that the light goes dim means there is a good chance your starter solenoid is sticking and drawing lots of current.

Cheers

It's a poor connection or one of the starter wires is earthing which is why the lights dim, check the wiring to and from the starter switch and ignition and down to the starter relay, the battery sounds fine.
