does any one know how to do a power slide, or rolling burnout as some people call it?
im guessing...
move at slow speed (10mph)
pull in clutch,
REV!,
pull front brake in quite far,
slowly let out clutch untill wheel spins,
adjust front brake to control speed.
is that right?? |

Not that i can do it very well but rolling burn outs i get the wheel spinning quickly in first gear on the spot, then slowly ease off of the front brake.
Haven't really got the power to keep the going for long but it certainly makes a good start that way
I could explain the theory to drifting/powersliding but i cant do it myself, i would rather not be responsible for your impending death so if you want to drift it then go google it

When you say rolling burnout you mean like the one that the guy does on the bike in The fast and The Furious: and the Tokyo Drift? ____________________ Rides - '60 Plate Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.25, '03 Plate Kawasaki ZX6R B1H and an '87 VFR400 NC24

No, it's not. What you need to do is apply more power to the tyre than can be handled by it's grip. There are two main methods:
a) Whack the throttle open very fast.
b) Feed the throttle into the clutch aggressively.
In both cases, if your weight is over the rear wheel you'll wheelie or flip it (weight = grip). If you move your weight over to the front end of the bike you remove weight from the rear tyre and it'll spin.
a) is a bad method (minimal control), b) is good (full control).
The potential problem comes once you have the rear spinning and it then grips suddenly, possibly spitting you off. It's a very dynamic equation/balancing of forces. Also bear in mind that a rolling burnout is an entirely different animal to a power-slide. The RB has the tyre effectively motionless in terms of travel, the PS has the tyre going sideways while travelling at high speed. Most racers high-side because they bottle it when they feel the rear lose grip. The successful power-sliders are those who understand more power is required to keep the rear wheel loose until the bike is aligned in such a way it can regain grip without launching the bike and rider into the air. But they also have to ensure they don't apply too much power such that the rear completely loses traction and they low-side.
The best, and safest, way to learn the technique is on an off-roader on loose shit. And you do it until you've become as one with the machine, it's tyres and the surface and it's second-nature. Then take it to tarmac and smash yourself and the bike up a few times while you discover how much harder it is with a tyre and surface that's designed to grip rather than give. It's a lot easier on a wet road/track obviously.
Final comment...don't do it, because you'll be hurt, both physically and financially. Be content if you can handle the occasional rear-end 'moment' without losing the bike into the shrubbery. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |

One of the guys at work here did a rolling burnout the other day... at 160....
Throttle jammed on full on his CBR 600 rr in 6th gear when overtaking and when hitting the brakes (before the clutch) it span up and shredded the tyre...
