Jesus, some times I think I should be in a funny farm. I recently changed from a Hornet to a CBR, and I think I must have forgotten how the hell to ride! At low speed, I just can't control right turns now. Coming out of a junction, I've nearly put the bike down about a dozen times so far. It just seems like taking off while turning right is not something the bike can do...

I've looked close at the bar on full right lock, and there's not enough room to get my fingers under the throttle, so that's part of it - but I'm increasingly worried it's just me being a spaz.

Tonight, I went for a blast - no dramas there, all fine. But on the way back I found an industrial estate and thought I'd practise my junctions. And I put my foot down on about 1 out of 5 times. It just didn't feel like I was getting better, either.

So, my thoughts are just to practise right junctions every ride, for 30 mins until I don't get one wrong. Anyone else like to chip in with wise words?

Keep the revs up a bit more, slip the clutch more and don't put your foot up too quickly.

u checked it at standstill, just to make sure that the throttle cable isnt sticking so causing it to increase revs on right handers?

Just practise though
I was similar on my mates CBR, compared to my Hornet it was a nightmare at slow speeds, just what you are used to

Full lock sounds wrong.

I don't think I ever use full lock on the road, only for maneuvering the bike in car parks etc.

Personally when turning right I look down the centre line after I have moved off, use that as a target, consciously apply some countersteer and a reasonable amount of throttle.

Keep looking at the line with positive throttle and it should be fine. Maybe using 1/2 of the 'lock' of the bars at the very start, which quickly unwinds when the gas goes on. The throttle is your friend.

Rolling Eyes

Shouldn't you be doing a wheelie around every corner now you're an expert?

Wink

It'll be to do with balance no doubt and where the weight is different, it'll be throwing you out. Practice I guess until you're so experienced you can change bike easily and adjust quickly. It's probably confidence too, as you're clearly a bit worried by it now and if you're anything like I was when I first started out, I'd tense up in anticipation of a right turn, as I knew it'd be painful Embarassed

after i passed my das on a gs500, my first bike was a cbr600fs

i kept putting my foot down on right handers too, specifically major to minor road juntions, especially if i had to stop for traffic before i could move off. i now dont stop so close to the minor roads centre line, giving myself time at a slow pace before i turn

not had a problem since the first couple of weeks

Do you have freeplay in your throttle cable? sounds like right lock is pulling your carb slide open.

Also, look further ahead of where you are going. And relax.

As Chris-Red said, clip ons are an arse.

You'll adapt your riding style eventually, the hornet is fair easier at full lock.

I also never use full lock on sports bikes, unless I'm doing a U turn because I can't open the throttle at all on full lock on the ZX6, there just isn't enough room so you have to coast round. Laughing

I seem to have a similar problem on the VFR but that is because I AM a wazzock....usually admiring some fit lass either driving by or on the pavement. Smile

Nearly dropped it in Shotton Colliery (I think, not sure because I was on a mission of exploration and had been all over the place).

Good idea, I do find I stop just a tad too close to the white lines and don't really give myself much room to pull away and get my balance. Thumbs Up

Strange you mention it, I had a problem yesterday turning right at a T junction. Traffic was busyish, just staggered enough so that when the left was clear, the right was busy - bloody annoying. A gap appeared that I could take if I launched quickly, and in doing so I noticed a sunken drain cover by the kerb. I think it was target fixation, but I ended up going over it as I used the whole width of the road to do a simple right hand turn Smile

As already said, you need to adjust your road position. Doubt I have ever used full lock on my bike apart from when pushing it Thumbs Up

Never had any problems on my 95 CBR other than it does have the turning circle of supertanker or at least feels that way in tight spaces Smile

Mind you ive not ridden a non clip-on bike for many years so it might just take you a while to adapt.
Try not to think too much about what your doing and more where your going an it should come naturaly in time Thumbs Up

when your at a junction or what ever rotate your hand/wrist forwards so when you open the throttle your fingers dont get caught between the frame

Cheers guys, that must be a first, no 'standard' BCF posts! I'll try to adjust road position and the throttle hand position thing too.

I'm also surprised nobody has asked me what a Wazzock is, must be a more mature BCF audience. Nobody else can use it though, it's an UnknownStuntman trademark, for now. Thumbs Up

So we can only call you a wazzock, and no-one else? Smile

How about the full "gret useless spawny-eyed parrot-faced wazzock"?

Try adjusting the positioning of your brake/clutch levers. Surprising the difference this small adjustment can make.
