I have a 2000 yamaha r6 and i need to change the old ignition with a new one. How do i take out the old ignition? i dont understand what holds it in place. the funny screws. what tool do i need

Normally they are held in with shear bolts. These are bolts where you do them up until the head shears off. The idea is that they cannot be easily undone (to stop someone just unbolting your ignition switch to nick the bike).

You can sometimes use a hammer and punch and undo them by tapping them round (they are rarely that tight), but failing that you will probably have to drill them out.

do i have to take the whole handle bars off or can i do this while its still intact to the bike? and i drill into the bolt destroying it?
