Hi, Im new to the site and wanted to say hello, its already been really helpful!

The one thing that does seem to come across is that a lot of people are passing first time -is there anyone else out there who didnt? I passed the theory with no problem first time but the cbt took a couple of cracks Embarassed -I have bought a CG125 to ride around on a couple of months ago and have loved it -have only done around 450 miles but feel a lot more confident. However I am doing a stretched DAS and failed my module 1 on Thursday -nerves totally got the better of me -put my foot down twice on the slalom which I had never done before -after that I was fine because I knew the pressure was off! (Was the same with my car test years ago but never with anything else) Confused

Has anyone else suffered from nerves? Everyone on here seems to have been breezing through.. any advice greatly appreciated

Loving riding the ER5 though!... Very Happy

failed cbt 2 times
failed part 1 once

dont worry about it look at it as extra experience and keep at the back of your mind part 2 is really easy compared to part 1 because it is

dont do your part one with your instructor go on your own it only costs a tenner
get online and book it

no instructor no extra pressure and at a tenner you can do it as many times as you like till you get it

Thanks Dave, that does make me feel a bit better! How does that work with the 500 though? I am assuming I cant hire a 500 because I cant legally ride it..

Just don't forget about the fact it's supposed to be fun, and you're doing something that you enjoy. Ignore the examiner (well, follow his instructions Very Happy ) and just do what you can.

If it makes you feel better, I didn't get my cbt cert the first time around and failed mod 2 once, but since I enjoyed and still do enjoy riding, it didn't put me off at all.
The good thing is you failed on something silly, so it's not like you're completely incompetent.

At least once you get everything sorted out, you'll appreciate it even more! Very Happy

Hi DizzyH,

I took my test some years ago before part 1s and part 2s but I failed the first time, messing up the emergency stop which I'd never had the slightest problem with while learning - I think it was nerves causing me to tighten up. I was really annoyed and upset but I retook the test a week or two later and passed. I think having taken the test once I knew better what was going to happen so was less stressed second time round. Looking back it seems such a small problem given the years of enjoyment I have had on bikes since.

Best of luck.

Practice Mod1 - put my foot down twice, locked the rear brake for the duration of the emergency stop.
Actual Mod1 - Nearly flipped the bike on the counter-steer.

To calm nerves I arrived early and did about 10mins of loops in the car park, with nearly full lock, without putting the foot down. You'll learn that when you are about to fall you need to give it some throttle without steering input...

After you get comfortable the test should be a bliss.

Thank you both- I am feeling better by the minute! There is no problem with me enjoying it -I am loving every minute just cant wait to get through the tests to get a bigger bike but as you say, I'll appreciate it even more when I get there!

Very Happy

Thank you -sounds good -I'll give this a go -all practice has got to help -even if I can't do it all on the 500

I passed my DAS third time. I had the same problem, even my intructor said he does not know what i do on the exam as my riding is perfect. My advice to you is to ride around the area where the exam will be, just so you get a rough idea of the roads. When doing mock exams i had 1 or 2 minors but when i saw the examiner it was like DRACULA just come out to get me Very Happy Anyway...try and stay calm and as other guys here said...ignore the fact that you are being followed by the examiner. Think positive!...what is the worst can happen'? Failing..and what? You can always re-take it on and on and on until you WILL pass. Good luck and remember that you will get this... Smile

Hey Dudette Very Happy

Although I passed first time, it wasn't without incident. I had hit a cone on the swerve twice and a cone marking the entry gate for the emergency stop whilst practicing for Mod 1. All I can say is take a deep breath, and tell yourself you've done all these maneuvers loads of times successfully. Having done the test once now, next time should be easier 'cos you know what you've got to face.... Thumbs Up

Took me a few (three!) goes to get through the cbt and two goes to get past the mod 1 (foot down on U-turn).

The second go at mod 1 was dead easy, I knew what to expect and I knew I could do it all. All the tricky stuff is in mod 1, so mod 2 is a breeze, you just need to ride safely, do the proper observations and you'll walk it (well, hopefully not literally, something has gone wrong if you actually end up walking) Smile Although, as mentioned earlier it's a good idea to ride the area a bit beforehand so that you don't get caught out by any funky town planning!

Just get through mod 1, one maneuver at a time and you're sorted. Best of luck Smile

Even though it may sometimes feel like it examiners arent there to fail you
They are there to check that you are safe to be released onto the roads without supervision

Your instructor is paid by you to get you to the test standard. They wont let you go for your test till they think you are ready

So you have nothing to be nervous about. Smile

You know what to expect next time, and if you are nervous tell the examiner. They are good at making you feel comfortable, it is their job. You arent the first and wont be the last to struggle with nerves

Thanks Adrian, Swampy and Capt Castle -I feel much better now -at least I dont feel quite so much like a freak! Strangely I don't feel quite as nervous about the module2 -maybe its because Ive been getting some riding time -fingers crossed!

Benjay -as its only a one way radio I'll give that a go! (If it was two way I'd definitely fail!!)

Thank you guys Very Happy

I was so nervous at the start of my test i was nearly shaking,
basically i just sang to myself in the helmet, on the test.
it sounds stupid but a little bit of singing a happy song like Uncle Kracker - Follow Me calms you right down, then i breezed through.

im guessing it helps to take your mind off what you are doing, because if you are nervous you start to overthink things and things go wrong.
i hope that makes sense, my descriptional skills suck. Laughing

hope this helps you out abit Thumbs Up Laughing

toptip.. dont sing some hardcore deathmetal, it has to be a soothing song Laughing haha

I passed cbt first time, just before the new test, I failed the first test because I left an indicator on too long and then had a second test abandoned because the examiners bike broke down, fuel pump. I passed the second with 1 minor . The last two were under the new test

If you are safe to ride then you will pass, just ride like your instructor told you and ignore the examiner, plenty of lifesavers and think ahead at junctions etc and you will pass. I definitely had the impression that the examiners want you to pass rather than they are looking for reasons to fail you.

\The ride seems to pass in a flash and you are back in the test centre

good luck

this may be a bit vulgar, but i found having a tommy tank before leaving the house calms me down alot? Laughing
