Hi All,

Just wondering whats the longest/furthest you've driven or ridden.
For me it was driving from Manchester to Santander via France in April, a full 26 hours on the road.

I did share the driving with someone else, but I did the major stints driving from Calais to Bordeaux and then Irun to Santander.
I found it to be one of the most mentally draining things I've ever done!

So how about you?

Craig

Never driven abroad (and i've only had a car since january). So furthest i've driven is probably when me and a mate went camping week before last in scotland. First night we went to glendridding in the lakes, 2nd night was a place called kirriemuir (north of dundee) and after that was spent in north berick.

Is only about 300 miles to kirrremuir but i told the slagnav to avoid motorways so it took us only some awesome roads (which i am now going to take the bike on when i get chance) so it was very tiring...especially on the arms and the poor old clutch foot Shocked

Most tiring drive i did was driving to bristol and back in 1 morning. Picked my sister up from hers (only about 7 miles away) at 2:45am (without any sleep through the night)...straight down and dropped her off and then drove back...i stopped at EVERY services and guzzled a few redbulls and a coffee....i was off my tits on caffene Laughing

On the bike i havne't really done any distance, been upto berwick upon tweed on a 125 (i live near leeds) via alnwick in northumberland but apart from that, no real distance.

I done an hour and a half on my bike Laughing Thats about the longest I have rode a bike with one stop and my head hurt after it. I hang around here on the coast road up and down avioding towns and traffic like the plague. You can get far in that time where I am with little traffic. And I done that on a really slow crapy vibrating lifan. I vibrated for about 4 hours after I got off. It wasnt nice.

Drove from Los Angeles to Oklahoma about 1300 miles in a crappy auto Dodge neon. But I shared the driving with two mates. Subway, taco bell,mc donalds, wendys we saw all the sights Smile

Rode non stop from Ullapool,Scotland to Norwich which is about 600miles, but that was enough for me, anymore and it would have got a bit dangerous as I was getting a bit mesmerized by the road.

Kent to Bristol and back on the TLR. Had Dam_Buster on the back on the way there. On the way back he was driving the car he'd bought.

Probably 600 miles all in. Did it in around 10 hours including petrol stops, Food brakes and Jim Buying the car etc.

Kent to Bristol's about 200 mile not 300. Laughing

Nowhere near the longest here but the most mentally exhausting trip I've made was from Newport to Milford Haven (In an old 2.1 Diesel Granada with a car trailer on) picking up an old Peugeot 7 seater then trailering it back past Newport down to somewhere near Plymouth then home. The old grannie wasn't happy with going any faster than 45 with a load on(you'd be lucky on an uphill stretch anyway), took 2 of us the best part of a day with all the messing about and I've never been so mentally drained, god know's how some of these dodgy lorry drivers mange to go for days at a time.

I'd rather spend 24 hours doing manual labour than that again. Shocked

Longest would be the trip to Aberystwyth last year with the welsh lot.

Did well over 400 miles in Snow, Rain, Sun and whatever else it did in one day on my ER5. If it wasn't for heated grips, i'd have not done it.

Longest by car was when work got stupid with the new system 18 months ago. Did nearly 400 miles going Ripon - Scarborough 4 times, with places in between.

I didnt say it was 300 miles either way.

I had to go from mine, To Jim's to pick him up. Then to Bristol. Then back home again.

And it wasn't actually Bristol where he picked the car up, It was just west of Bristol, But I cant remember what the place was called. Laughing

My Trip counter read 595 when I got home though.

Depends what you mean, if you mean in one go without stopping, one single trip with stops or what.

Single trip without stops for anything but fuel and waiting for ferry would be 23hours solid, drove the van to Northern Ireland and back in one day from Birmingham, though only got back to Dumfries but it was non stop except for the 4hour wait for the ferry back, was wasted. Otherwise would be van to Redruth and back in one day, was about 550miles I think, another day I did Birmingham upto Inverness via Edinburgh and Aberdeen which was a long one, and Dijon to Birmingham on the bike, again about 500.

Trip wise my recent 13 day bike trip was 3700 miles, and I did about 3500miles in Canada a couple of years ago over 13 days.

Seeing as I've been driving for a living 5 days a week for the last 4-5years I suppose you could say i'm probably approaching half a million miles in one giant trip, with weekend breaks ofcourse Wink

Yeah I meant in one go, with only 'break' stops.
My trip above was 1250 miles each way, and it was looooong! French Motorways are very smooth, but they've never heard of cats eyes. :/

Not very far.

Just north of Newcastle to South London. It was January this year. Riding down the A1 was bitterly cold! Had to stop every 100 miles or so to warm up!

Slept badly and woke up at 5am for final day of DAS starting at 6.30am.

Rode around all day, then took test at 3.30pm. Failed it.

Annoyed, went back and had tea. Decided I wanted to go home. Which, unfortunately, was 500 miles away as I'd been doing my DAS in Aberdeen and lived in London.

Left Aberdeen at 7pm. Hit massive overnight roadworks on the way down. By 3am or so my sleep-deprived brain suggested I go round the M25 and in the M4 rather than continuing down the M1 (to get to Paddington!). Got to my front door about 4.30am.

Got maybe 3 hours sleep and had to get up to take the hire car back because the parking restrictions round my place meant you could't park after 8am without a permit (which I didn't have, being a hire car).

Dropped car off at Victoria, tubed home and went back to bed for a few hours. Then went to see WWF wrestling at Wembley. Razz

The distance was nothing special, I've done longer and been fine. But the tiredness was something else. I was knackered before I even started the day, by the end of it I was nodding off and waking up when the car hit the rumblestrips on the M4. Neutral

I did Soisson (just NE of Paris) to Hull in a day. Was around 475 miles, set off early afternoon and got home about 3 oclock in the morning.

Due to being tired and confused, missed the A1 and ended up near Muswell Hill before hitting the M1. Hit the worst fog I've ever seen in my life on the M62 at about 1:30am, I didnt feel comfortable doing over 40mph due to the fact I could see nothing. My mate (on here Dav1) put his visor up and continued to doa ton through the fog. Fuckin' psycho. Awesome memories though, and the sense of achievement getting home after 4000 miles was brilliant.

Dole near Dijon in France to Calais and to Dover on ferry then onto home near Scunthorpe, 700miles. Wasn't too bad really. Set off at 10.30am, had a few breaks, think I stopped for about an hour one time. Got to the ferry at 6pm, set sail at 6.30pm and got to Dover at around 8-8.30pm, got home just before midnight, on my lil RVF Very Happy

I did Skye to Kent in a oner, 750 miles in about 11 hours. Stopped for petrol a few times and that was it.

In a smart roadster too. Noisy journey.

I got home, closed my eyes, and just saw road.

I had one like that for work once - drove 5 and a half hours from Southampton to Immingham in a crap diesel Berlingo, spent half an hour on site fixing a computer, then caned it all the way back again. Foot flat to the floor at 80 for about 11 hours, when I stopped the entire world kept going backwards for about 20 minutes until I had a few beers.

Once drove from Reading to Penzance and back non stop apart for fuel which is nearly 600 miles.

Worst drive was from Reading to Blackpool supposed to be staying there only to find accommodation filthy and disgusting and no where else to stay suitable so ended up driving back to Reading.
Was quite possibly the most surreal trip of my life !
Once the motorway starts morphing into funky colours you know its time to stop.

Couple years back drove from New York to Toronto and back via various places which was fun.

Hi

Not sure, and depends what you count as 1 jump.

Quite regularly drove 350 miles back from Brussels to Stafford on a Friday evening after work when I was there (and then back to Brussels on the Sunday). Did it on the bike a couple of times.

One weekend I went from Brussels to Hethel for the Lotus open day and then drove back again the same day which seems to be about 320 miles each way according to multimap. Didn't realise it was that far! Also did a few extra miles (picked my father up in the morning, went to see I house I lived in near Hethel when I was about 2 and dropped my father off at Stanstead on the way back).

All the best

Keith

On a bike, 500 miles from Nurburgring to Southampton. Did three laps in the morning too.

In a car, I did 6004km - 3,750 miles in ten days in a road trip with the pregnant missus and 20 month old daughter in Australia.

Limited driving on four of the days, since we were camping at places.

Did one 775km day (Flinders ranges to Robe Via Adelaide), and two 750 km days (Coober Pedy - Ayres Rock & reverse).

To be fair, I did share the driving with the missus. She did one 250km stretch. Very Happy
