The person who designed the newest installation of word should be shot in the fucking face! If I ever meet him I'm gonna scream so hard in his fucking ears that his eardrums turn to mush!
Why are there so many fucking buttons?!?!?! NOTHING is easy to do. This is about as user friendly as making fire with 2 sticks.
It's taking me literally 45 minutes to make a few tiny changes to a legal document. In the end I just get there by luck..
Anyone else hate this piece of shit programme as with the same level of passion as me?
Thank FUCK that Mac didn't get the same version. I'm off to nuke the Microsoft HQ, be back in an hour Thumbs Down Thumbs Down

Suggest if you can't get on with it (I've not heard a good thing about the usability of the new version) you download and try OpenOffice.

It's free, yes I'll say that again, it's free.
Plus it supports all the MS files, can output direct to pdf and has lots of extensions and templates you can add.

Plus if you ever feel the need there's a portable version you can put on a USB drive to carry around with you from PC to PC.

The openoffice files can't be opened by MS apps (as far as I've found, until MS move the goalposts). Therefore a little more secure and private.

Thumbs Up

Yes, M$ Office 2007 is an abomination, yes OpenOffice is usable and functional.

At home I use OpenOffice, because I don't like unlicensed software and won't pay what M$ ask.

At work I use Office 2007 and save everything as 2003 compatible i.e. .xls not .xlsx, .doc not .docx

Interestingly M$ are currently fighting in the courts over their use-misuse of xml based office documents.

Oh and I hate Vista!

Excel is the worst, stupid bloody 'tabs' full of pointless buttons instead of the drop down menus and normal toolbar that was just fine for years.

Makes everything take longer, just trying to find a simple button that's now hidden under some obscure tab. Thumbs Down

And don't get me started on pivot tables... Mad

Remember that Open office can read and write word documents but word can't read open office documents. So if you're sending one to someone who is using word, save it as a .doc not an .odt.

In fact, open office can often open word documents that word can't because they are "corrupted".

I don't think I can take ranting about this all over again, it consumes too much of my time as it is! So here's the last thread posted instead...

I read your thread. I must check how they look like at PC shop!
I hope office PC will upgrade to 2003 not 2007 then.

I, like a lot of people, hated it at first, but as soon as you start writing proper technical documents with it you do realise that it is much, much easier to use than 2003.

Give it time, don't just bail after 10 minutes because it's different. You'll like it.

As someone that works in ICT tech support in a school I can understand very well what nearly all of you are saying about the MS Office 2007 interface but once you use it a few times you'll find it is actually quite well organized. The easiest way to do something is think about what you want to do e.g. to insert a table you'd go to the insert tab and choose the table button. The key is essentially to think logically.

Can't view the video unless you download microbsofts own media player. Rolling Eyes

Can't say as that comes as much of a surprise. Well, video can just stay unwatched, I'm not downloading a new media player just to watch an advert.

I've been using office 2007 at work for a while. Once you get used to it it's fine, but the first little while is pretty shite.

The only worry for me is that they'll now completely change the interface in each subsequent release of office, which will be irritating.

On an almost completely unrelated note, I've had to install ubuntu on a laptop and I've been using that for the last few days. I've been dipping in and out of it for the last 2-3 years (ubuntu will do an easy net install using PXE on a laptop with no CD ROM drive), and the current distro is actually quite nice to use. I'm not sure what the little tweaks are since I last used it a year ago, but it seems to run smoother and with far less involvement or tweaking from me.

I'm liking it to the extent that I may format my new hard drive to dual boot into linux and windows. This would be unusual for me.

Microsoft has been prohibited from selling flagship software offering Word in the US because of successful legal action taken against the company in Texas by i4i. Skip related content
The prosecuting company supplies Word XML authoring software and has insisted that Microsoft has infringed its 1998 patent (number 5,787,499) which allows customers to read XML programming language in order to customise document formats.

Embedded in Microsoft Word is the capability for users to read and write XML documents.

In March 2007 i4i filed the original lawsuit and in May this year the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas found the Redmond giant guilty of infringing the patent and fined Microsoft $200m (£122m).

Now the same court has ruled Microsoft has to stop selling Word in 60 days.

Microsoft could not be reached for comment. However, according to The Seattle PIs Microsoft Blog, Microsoft representative Kevin Jutz said in a statement: " We believe the evidence clearly demonstrated that we do not infringe and that the i4i patent is invalid. We will appeal the verdict."

In the unlikely event that Microsoft does not manage to appeal the verdict and the decision stands, it could build a work around for the problem or remove the offending code.

Suck it up, you poncing fvcking filth.
