Passed my test on Tuesday (Yipeeeeeeeeeee), really pleased, but the downside is that although I went the DAS route, and have bought myself a nice shiny Fazer 600 (to be picked up on Saturday), I'm really not too confident when it comes to bends.

Everything on the training and the test was fine, but after passing, I got "let loose" by the training school on their bike for the unescorted 12 mile ride back, and no longer being fixated on the speedo I suddenly realised that at no point in the CBT/DAS training did anything about how to go round bends come up. Now I know that obviosly I can turn by leaning the bike over, but what I'm really getting at with this is, what's the best way of doing this. I've read about the trick of turning the bar to the right to induce a lean to the left, but it just seems wrong. Any advise will be gratefully receives, and in the meantime I'm going to treat the bends like a Pork pie hatted grandad, boring I know, but I don't want to see those hedgrows at close quarters....

pushing on the left handlebar when coming to a left hand bend will make the bike drop down into the corner or vice versa.

just do a google search for counter steering should be plenty of advice there

when going round the corner remember to look well ahead where you want the bike to go

nice choice of bike m8

take it easy for a bit

Look through the corner and you will go where you want to, counter steering you don't really need to think about, you do that without even realising after a while. Remember to always look where you want to go and you should be fine, target fixation is what causes most people to go wrong, this is when you focus on something say a kerb and you go towards it, your making yourself do this even though you don't realise it!

Don't think about the steering too hard and look where you want to end up. If you look at the edge of the road you will drive straight into it! If you look through the corner to where you want to be then you will end up there. Its just a case of getting used to it, take it easy at first and you will soon improve as your confidence builds.

Congrats on passing your test by the way.

Well done - nice bike - I'm on my second. Very forgiving with big brakes!

My advice is to start slowly, don't go exploring the full rev range of the bike until you are ready. As far as steering is concerned, counter steering only works above 30mph. To start with steer with your eyes - look at where you want to be and you will get there! You sub-consciuosly make shift your weight on the bike and it goes where you want it to!

ah yes, the 'look where you want to go' rule. It took me *ages* to get the hang of that, particularly when it came to U-turns, I could never look where I wanted to go, only at the road just in front of me!
(I broke - slightly - the bike I was getting a lesson on at one point thanks to dropping it on a u-turn Sad )
