Hello all.

I`m not the greatest letter-ist on this planet. My mum passed away last week and im trying to write a letter to send out to everyone informing them of mums death and all the funeral arrangements Crying or Very sad

After about an hour of staring at a blank page ive come up with the following

any suggestions welcomed

Thanks

Dear

I am writing this letter on behalf of my dad, *****. With so many friends, relatives and acquaintances, to hand write to all of you, would have taken forever.

It is with great sadness, that I must inform you that ****** passed away peacefully around midday on Friday 21st August after a short illness.

It has all been very sudden and I don’t think its quite hit home yet. Mum had a brain haemorrhage early on Wednesday morning, lost consciousness and we have been told suffered no pain , she was admitted to the *************** where after tests we were told there was nothing they could do and it would be a matter of time.

Regretfully, we have not been able to get this letter out sooner, we thought it best to wait until all the arrangements are in place for the funeral. You are all welcome.

The funeral is to be held at ******** crematorium on Friday 4th September at ****AM

Donations to Macmillan in lieu of flowers

There will be a celebration of mums life afterwards at ************ , ******* with a hot buffet and coffee/tea. Myself and Dad would love to see you there, to share in memories of *****. Also we would love to meet some of you, collegues and friends of mum who we do not know.

I can be contacted on ************* or my father on *************, directions to the crematorium and wake can be found overleaf.

Sincerely

****** and Ben ********

Its right I think. I *might* change the first instance of the word 'dad' for the word 'Father' and then after that first sentence go a little more informal though.

You've done a very good job of a very very difficult task. I feel for you. Sad

I think that letter is just right.

I lost my mum just over a year ago in similar circumstances, so, like some others here, I know exactly what you are going through.

Try to take it all one thing a time, you will get through it. You and I both know that the coming months will be hard. Never be afraid to share how you are feeling as many times as you need to. Don't bottle it up because that way madness lies (learnt much to my own cost).

You have my deepest sympathies mate.

After my mum died I found easiest to just say what I thought.

Most of the important words seemed to be replaced with stars. I hope you have sorted it apart from that.

Sorry you lost your mum, no idea how I would cope if I lost someone that close.
