Just having a wee thought here, the current bike [cbr929] really does tick all the boxes for me with the exception of economy.

I find at best on a straight motorway run I'm getting 130 miles until the fuel light comes on and filling up 15 or 16 litres. I know this isn't the worst mileage in the world but just wondering if there's a way to improve it without changing my riding style, which is 'progressive' but doesn't take the biscuit with stop/starting etc.

You reckon if you stuck a power commander and took it to a dyno centre they could make a map up for it that would, shall we say, lean the fuel air mixture out without damaging the engine?

Obviously the cost of getting a power commander and getting it set up makes this a pretty uneconomical notion in itself Shocked

The PCIII usb can be set up by your bad self at home, PC maps are freely available on t'internet and I'm sure something common enough like a Blade would have plenty of available maps for it and any aftermarket exhausts available.
Of course the cost of the PCIII USB is about 275 quid(ish), but at least the maps are free!

Only works for FI bikes am I correct? (for my info and OP's)

Thanks man, I had a brief look on the powercommander website but there's nothing that is obviously tailored for better fuel economy. I think an idea like this would require a custom map to be made up by a dyno centre??...

....and that's where it gets too spicey for me Shocked

Leaning it out won't neccesarily give better fuel economy.

Making it run leaner will mean your losing power, which means you have to use a wider throttle opening to compensate anyways...

Just use less throttle, and go slower.

Or;

Don't bother, bikes are cheap to run considering the performance.... How many supercars can do 0~60 in less than 4s and still return 45mpg!?

130 miles and 15.5 litres = 38mpg...thats pretty shoddy for motorway riding...my old ZX7R would do close to 50mpg and the current ZX10R will return 48mpg on a constant 90mph tucked in.

Be a bit more aerodynamic and you will get your mpg up. If its worrying you that much,m go up a tooth on the front sprocket, its cheaper than a power commander and will return more mpg, it might lose some accel but if mpgs your game accel isnt high on your list.

Jeez. 38mpg is bad is it? What planet are you on? My MZ ETZ 301 does 50mpg on the motorway, has a top speed of 70mph and accelerates like an asthmatic pony.

My Subaru on the other hand (which wasn't particularly tuned or anything) did 23 mpg whether or not you are pushing it. You could get it down to 21mpg if you really thrashed it, and if you did an entire tank on the motorway you could do about 24mpg if you were lucky but thats your lot.

I bet my Buell doesn't do 38mpg either, and I don't care because for the performance and fun I get I'm happy to buy the petrol. Hence why I sold my Subaru.
