Speed camera

Yesterday while out riding with my mate, we both got flashed by a speed camera, even though it was on the other side of the road.It was a 30mph zone, which I thought was a 40 zone Embarassed

.does this mean that I will get a speeding ticket through the post?
If I do will it mean that I will lose my licence because I already have 3 points and im on a provisional?

When you say it was on the other side of the road, was it facing you? If so then there's no chance you'll be caught. No front facing number plate remember. Smile

Your going to have to wait and see if you do get a ticket through the post. Speed cameras are normally on the same side of the road in which they are enforcing the speed with the exception of hand held units.

I think 14 days is the timescale for tickets so if you are caught then you will get at least 3 points.

Yeah the camera was facing me and the flash was v bright, even with a black tinted visor Evil or Very Mad

They can be triggered when you're on the other sdie of the road, but this is them misbehaving, and as someone else said you have no front numberplate anyway Very Happy

What I don't get then, is if they are misbehaving, what if there is a car on the side of the road which is being monitored going the correct speed, but it flashes the biker and the car driver, will the car driver get prosecuted?

I personally like to add another 20-30mph on the clock for a crappy camera on the other side in 60 zone on a big wide road, then wave for the camera Razz

The white lines on the road are so the actual speed can be calculated, as they know how far apart the photos are taken, and they know how far apart the lines are which is why it takes two photos of you, as otherwse you could just turn around and claim "no, I was parked up" or something like that Laughing

Front facing GATSO's cannot catch bikes as we don't have front number plates (unless you ride some old vintage thing from before 1970 something, cos they got rid of them as they were like blades on the front of the bike)

How ever the UK Goverment is deciding whether or not to re-introduce them in some way. Confused

Hi

The white lines in the road are there to double check the speed of the vehicle (the radar / laser guns are not that accurate really).

I don't think the camera units are actually homologated for measuring your speed when you are approaching the unit. As such they possibly cannot do you on the "evidence" from one, and just put the white lines on the road to terrorise you.

Some guy here in UK just got a speeding ticket. A camera caught him doing 400mph in a rented car.
Even tho the fact that 400mph is impossible unless he was driving a rented McLaren F1 or something, the police are sticking to it and he'll have to pay up. LOL

Old front plates were called bacon slicers, for their effect on pedestrians.
You cannot be done from the front by a camera that flashes. It is illegal for a camera to flash in your face and rear-facing cameras can only calculate your speed when you're travelling away from them. It could have just been a radar reflection or something.

no he still couldnt do 400mph in a maclaren f1.

and my dad went through a speed camera that WAS facing at his no. plate and DID flash. he didnt get a ticket. They dont send tickets to all speeders.

Half the time they just put the mobile units there once every month or so just so they have an excuse to scare people with the dreaded speed camera sign

no really a maclaren f1 will not do 400 mph its basically (like the name suggests) a road worthy f1 car. which top out around 200 mph. although they are geared mainly for acceleration so there is probably potential to get maybe 300 mph with the correct gearing. If the maclaren f1 could do 400 mph it would problably be the slowest accelerating machine ever.

To get 400mph an engine would need to produce somethig stupid like 3000 bhp

No really I saw one, down my road you see; it had stripes down the middle of it and they make it well fast you see, and......and it played music really loud...... all these mods with the right gearing will make it reach 400mph, honest! Rolling Eyes

Didn't Top Gear prove that if you go over about 160mph then the camera wont sense you to take the photograph, so even if cars could do that speed they wouldn't get caught!
