I thought I’d go through the history of my biking and tie up a few things that may have had you questioning why I left it out, as you may have heard about it on the forum.
I do remember a hell of a lot more than I put down but I tried to make it entertaining and not long and drawn out.

One of the pupils in my year appeared on a SFX50, now pretty much legal to do anything I wanted to, I loved the idea of the independence it could give me, so I consulted the parents.

I didn’t include the posse that we had eventually in the ‘ped’ gang lol.
There were some very interesting bikes back then, and because of the little knowledge of the machines it was ever more interesting to have a go on someone else’s bike and see what the fuss was about.

My best mate through 90% of my school life got a bike because he saw the benefits of having one, and the chicks loved it.

I have to explain the machine because it was possibly the most notorious in the area.
An acquaintance of ours was two years older, and into bikes in a big way, I do see him from time to time now but he isn’t quite as mental as he was back then.
I remember going round his place for general mechanical knowledge occasionally and just to see him at work.
He’d be in his dad’s garage, swapping rims, setting fire to exhausts and making gaskets out of rice crispy boxes

He had a passion for one particular machine, in the right hands it could be a formidable bike, it is world renowned for being a bit crazy and a favourite of DIY modifiers.

Yes, the Kawasaki AR50

The picture above is the closest I could get to the one my mate had, he bought it from the guy I’ve just been talking about.
The local plod knew him well, many times this bloke was reported racing up and down the road, testing his machine with no helmet, jumping curbs and doing burnouts.

So my friend parted with £450 for this motorised BMX, absolute bargain though.
I remember the summer he had it, I had the RX50 at the time which had a few admirers in our gang because it was derestricted, looked and sounded great.
So between us I think we had the fastest machines, we usually had them in the garden after school, tweaking, cleaning and revving them up much to the disgust of the neighbours.

I bet your thinking why is this AR50 so great? I’ve seen one go before and…

Well, my bike was the 2000 model RX50, Italian off roader with the RS50 power plant bolted on with shorter gear ratio, it terms of fast 50’s it was fast. The AR50 killed it off the mark…we had to find out what the guy had done to it.
The AR50 as standard will probably top out at around 50mph on a good day and you’ll be changing gear at reasonable 8000rpm.
What we didn’t know is that this thing had stronger clutch plates fitted, it was bored out to an 80 and to top it all off the CDI ignition kit had been changed to un-limit the rev range.
The bike red lined at 10-12K, and had an indicated top speed of 65mph, it had a skull and cross bones on the top of the tank and a ‘Shit Happens’ sticker on the side.

I remember testing the bike on a dual carriage way not far from his house, I’ll never forget coming down a slight gradient back to the village over taking a truck with ease and still enough power to take me further.

My lasting memory of the bike before she passed away was when we were coming back one night from the Cheltenham inner ring. On the route back you go passed the Racecourse which is on a pretty steep hill. Many accidents have happened in the past because of the speeds that you are capable of coming down the other side.

The RX was topping out at an indicated 62-63mph, my head down and arms tucked in.
Suddenly out of nowhere the AR passed me as if I had my brakes on, I looked at the speedo again, I’m now getting 65mph and the engine is not giving me anymore.
It seemed the AR is possible of more speed when travelling down the hill, the engine sounded like someone gargling and screaming with battery acid in their mouth.
When you reach the bottom of this hill there is long dip in the road and then you go back up again slightly to level out onto a long straight.

As I watched my friend get to the bottom of the hill, my eyes then fixed on the lights, they were still green, and I swear I could still hear the bike as it peaked at maximum velocity, the clutch plates slipping in every one of its six gears.
I had made some ground and was able to hear the bike clearly now, he passed the lights just as the road peaks on the crest, the bike sounded like it was about to go back in time, as this happened sparks flew from the bottom of the bike, the bike got louder and seemed to be going even faster.
I was beeping the horn wildly to try and stop him as I thought the thing was breaking up, like a space shuttle re-entering the atmosphere.
We pulled up at the roundabout and I checked over the bike, the exhaust cooling down from red hot, I looked down to see the manifold had disintegrated and was now hanging off the pipe section.
What a bike, the AR certainly surprised all of us, the ugly little Kawasaki had seen its last ride for awhile. It was sold on as a non runner.

I haven’t got the actual pictures of the bikes but this Gilera runner was the closest thing I could get.
There were two guys we knew, best mates, each had one of these. Both were race tuned and I remember these keeping up with my TS125X.

The H@K was a strange design, I felt sorry for the guy though, it was so underpowered he was at the back of the pack with the slower mopeds. I’m sure it was restricted but I didn’t know how to sort it at the time.

It was quite quick for a 50, but I hate mopeds and this is one of the worst.

A 60mph+ machine, very quick and could wheelie if yanked up properly. Mopeds though…

My best mate got rid of the AR50 for that RX you can see in the back ground, unlike mine it only did about 50mph.
He never knew why mine was faster…

So, they were some of the bikes in the gang, eventually there was such a large group we used to tear around the village at school lunch times as we only had around 40 minutes.
One day in assembly (whatever you call it) there was an announcement that pupils who own bikes should not use the village’s road system as a race track...all eyes turned to the row of bikers.

My points on my licence were always a joke with my mates, I seemed to be really unlucky when it came to the plod. Most of my bikes I had purposely made them look a bit tatty, so it didn’t do me any favours.

I recall a party I went to, my mates invited me, the party was 95% girls, from an all girls school.
Some real hotties there I must say, I got on with them really well. We drank, flirted and left the house happy men.

I got a lift back with the guys who had been drinking, my house was about 10 miles from Bishops Cleeve where they all lived, they dropped me off and headed home.
I went inside and got ready for bed, but 20 minutes later I got a call from the gang saying that they were all carrying on drinking and mucking about at the village hall, and they wanted me to come over. I had many bottles of small French lager, spirits etc at the party…I was defiantly over the limit to ride…was this silly??

I thought for about 10 minutes, I grabbed my kit and went out the door.

I opened the garage ready to get the TS125 out, and then I remembered something, before I went out I was changing the brake pads, the bike was still on some blocks and the front wheel wasn’t attached!
I was a bit groggy and tired but I managed to do the whole job with no fuss, cleared up the tools and headed out.

I rode pretty well actually, I got into the village and stopped at that crossing, coincidently where I had the accident (mentioned in part one), I sat there for a second thinking about that day.
It’s 12:30am, Saturday night...no cars, no noise, just my TS ticking over.

Then over the other side of the road, a police car pulls up to the lights, I see them, and my heart sinks, I could lose everything here.
But then again I’ve done nothing wrong, my lights work and I haven’t been speeding, I could just ride off.
I turned left and both officers watched me as I passed, I could feel them staring, as I travelled down the road, I took a quick glance in my mirrors to see the police car making a U-turn…shit. I picked up the pace a little got round two roundabouts and then he was up my ass before I could say, jail bird.

I switched off the bike and got off, helmet off to, I’m chewing gum, I thought it might help.

He didn’t look happy, the female officer got out but stayed near the car door.
After a few basic questions he told me to spit the gum out… “That isn’t going to help you now”, at this point I am bricking it.
“Have you been drinking sir”...”No…”…”no point lying to me sir, I can smell drink from here”

Shit.

He got the breathalyzer out, 1000 thoughts ran through my mind, should I make a run for it? HA ha haaa, idiot.
I blew into the pipe for the allocated time, green…beep...amber…beep…stopped. Amber.
Holy shit! I thought. Safe?
He was not happy at all now, the female officer was actually saying they should go and see to some more important calls.
Then he started looking over the bike, asking where I was going. I said I had a two lager’s earlier and waited until I thought it was safe to ride home, which is only up the road.

The only thing he could have me for was on L plate, and he did, I got away with 3 points and a producer.

It was a laugh going all the way to Kent, I went up with a good friend of mine who loves driving, doesn’t matter what he drives, he just does it for a job. He borrowed his dads work van, for the trip, we got some drink, food and porn and set off to do over 200 miles to the other side of the country.
Along the way we had a laugh, heckling women out the windows in true white van man fashion, reading FHM and talking crap, eating Ginsters.

We arrived at the garage, the guys here restored classic Italian mopeds. They came out to greet us before taking me to the bike, strange thing was, the owner wasn’t there.
They explained that he doesn’t know a lot about bikes and currently he is sorting out his life as he is going through a divorce.
The guys showed me around the bike, and said they had MOT’d it for the chap who lives down the road, he doesn’t have Ebay so they are selling it for him.
I finally met the Italian guy, he was short, looked like Frankie Detorie and was wearing a Italia ‘90 football jacket

We were talking in the street down the road from this garage sorting the money out, when his wife steps out, a large lady possibly 15-16 stones, with more facial hair than myself, she was giving him some lip so he took me off round the corner to sort the money. If she saw he was being handed a grand in cash, she’d have ripped his arm off to get it.

About 6 months after I sold the Mito I saw my mate in the pub, I overheard a conversation with his mate about him losing his licence, turns out the bugger drove me all that way whilst being banned for drink driving!!! PMSL!

As mentioned in a reply to my fourth instalment, I lost my licence last year.

The A4019 from Cheltenham used to be a 60mph zone and rightly so, it is a good clear road. Unfortunately some accidents occurred at the junction half way down the dual carriage way, so they changed the road layout and set the speed limit to 50mph.
I had been so good for so long, my 12 points were now down to three, but I had passed my test in March so I was still on the two years probation period.
I was caught by a new mobile speed camera van doing a supposed 58 in the 50, I was keeping up with traffic, not darting in and out of it, I thought this was unfair as conditions were good and I wasn’t in a rush.

The feeling when I got the letter through from the DVLA was on par with the feeling when you have a bike stolen.
Thieves had taken the piss out of me, the police had taken the piss, it seems like the good guy always comes last in this one. The police have failed to make an effort on occasions where I needed there help, but the paper work and fine for this offence was dealt with in good time.
But this is my dreams, my life, everything, it has been said to be as harsh as a crack addiction, you get depressed and lose your temper sometimes.
I got to it straight away, booked lessons, and test, I needed to prove to myself I could do this and not let this system get me down. Its times like this you understand peoples reasons for turning to crime.
Around £450 later and I get my licence back, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a ride as much, it released a lot of stress that I really didn’t need.

I’m 22 now and when I reflect on the biking I have done it does give me a feeling I’ve been doing something worth my time. I’ve met some really amazing people, learnt a great deal and hunger for the good times ahead.

It seems you've ridden quite a few bikes and had quite a few ups and downs in your time.

You have almost got me searching Ebay now for a project AR80 Fast as hell for 80cc, and about 11bhp std. I think the std RD80LC was quicker still, and i've heard people saying that they top 70mph easily before tuning!
