I'm getting rid of the zx6r to get a ktm supermoto but what's the difference between these?

I think your links may have failed?

LC4 is basically the engine type - a non-competition (though they are used in some competitive bikes) engine. 'Liquid cooled 4 valve' I expect.

From 2007 onwards there was a definite 'supermoto' model, though given the choice I'd go for the lighter 2008+ SMC model, however it may not have as good road manners.
Before that, I've seen a lot of models referred to as that, but I'm not sure if there was a specific one sold as that or not I'm afraid.

I thought the LC4 was the supermoto until they came with slight spec changes later on.

Ideally I want one with an electric start as well. Just wondered what the difference is as on biketrader they have a few different sections, LC4, Supermoto, Duke etc and they all look pretty similar.

As I say, LC4 is just the engine type, though some do use it in the bike name - the designation has been used for a long time and across a range of engine types, with the latest the 650cc '690'. All the 950/990 models are 'LC8s' as far as I know.

Duke is a more road-biased bike with some supermoto stylings. Tends to be a bit heavier.

Plenty of other people are confused about what they mean, so often the wrong categories are used.

Better off with a Duke then or won't it make much difference?

Depends what you want it for, the Duke is perhaps a bit more 'stable' - however there's a lot of levels.
Ie the 660SMC Factory was stupidly light, highly tuned race bike, while the latest 690 SMs are pretty heavy, but the 690SMC is a reasonable weight.
The heavier bikes are going to feel a bit more 'civilised', so of course a bit less 'nutter' - though I wouldn't really say an LC4 is much of a 'nutter' bike - you've got to try a lot harder than on a proper competition based bike.

The duke 2 will still clutch up in 2nd gear no probs completely stock, drop a tooth on the front and it will clutch in 3rd easily enough. They are great fun but dont expect to do alot of miles, small fuel tank and they vibrate........ALOT.
