I'd like to have opinions about the kit I am about to buy.

-Xena XPL46 alarmed padlock
-Almax immobiliser III 1.5m chain
-Hawk alarm (125db it says)
-ebay anchor 120468620301

Is this ok?

I had a Xena disc lock. While it looks pretty chunky, the pin isn't very thick inside it. Also I ended up removing the alarm from it as it had a tendency to go off whenever it liked. This was in a garage, so no wind rocking it.

This worst thing about disc locks, if you ever forget to take it off, and move off, you will cry. They can cause a lot of damage up front. So get a bright one or one of those cord/reminder things.

Plus they are mearly a deterrent. Any determined thieve will un-bolt your discs or chop a hole in them.

Other than that, make sure this ebay anchor is actually good. And what lock are you getting?

Your security is only as strong as your weakest link.

Actually, my disc lock will be my chain lock as well.
Is there a better alarmed lock?

Are you leaving that chain at home or taking it with you? If your flush, get the series 4 almax. Its too large to carry with you because its bloody massive but it will make you sleep better at night. Laughing They do a swivel ground anchor that goes with the series 4 almax too.

I never had that model of Xena lock, so I could be completely wrong about its quality. But I was disappointed with mine.

Do you already have an alarm on your bike? If so, why bother with the alarmed lock? If not then you can get alarms off ebay for £40 that aren't that bad. Then just get a heavy duty un-alarmed lock.

I'm sure if you search there will be over 9000 posts on people opinions and experience on various security measures. Ranging from chaining bikes to sappling trees to rigging shotgun shells filled with rock salt to garage doors.

I am taking the chain with me as my bike is a spacious burgervan 400.

Thanks for the advice guys. It is pointless to have an alarmed padlock I suppose.
Then I am getting a Squire SS65CS lock with almax3 chain. 4 is way too heavy..
Would 1meter almax4 be enough? Which is 7kilos...

Get a 1.5 meter series 3.

It's what I have and it's perfect. 1 meter is too short imo. You can shorten the almax chains by putting the end link through any link further up the chain and then padlocking it.
