End Can gasket problem

Hello all. Hope you can help with some advice?

I own a 1998 Honda VFR 800 FI and today I was trying to refit the Micron Magnex end can to the bike (I had a standard exhaust fitted as the bloomin insurance company wouldn't initially recognise the Micron!!!)...

Reading the Haynes manual I needed a gasket where the End Can meets the remainder of the exhaust system. Bought one from my local Honda dealership BUT it is too big for the Micron.

Looking on the internet it looks like Micron have gone bust so I'm struggling to buy a suitable gasket

Can anyone tell me where I can get one. At present the End Can has been fitted without the gasket... will this cause any problems as it sounds ok?

If it's not blowing exhaust gases on the join, It should be ok.
(A bit of talcum powder over the join and starting the engine up is a good test if you aren't sure)
What I would personally do, if you can't find the right gasket is just to simply buy some gasket paper and make your self one.
The cheapskate, but just as affective way is to make one out of a cereal box side

Not all race cans need a gasket.

It won't cause you a problem as long as it's not blowing anywhere.

i agree with ham, but if you are unsure, see if you can get hold of some gasket matierial. saves you paying over the odds for a genuine honda part, but does a fine job. i cant say i have ever used cardboard but i imagine it mite work if its tough enough.

Many thanks for the replies to date.. I'll try the talc route tomorrow & if its not blowing I might just continue to run it...

I've done the cardboard gasket before but won't the heat from the exhaust cause it to combust?
