hi folks.for years ive been looking at my old trials bike, well over a decade to be honest. i never realy knew what it was, until my gf had the idea of getting the frame number and doing a search for it on the net, and ive discoverd that its an old tlm 50. the engine is now none exsistant though, and has been for years. so ive just got basicly a bike with no engine, carb, air box, expansion pipe, and so on. i realy want to get on and restor the old girl. considering this rollig chassis with what were brand spanking new rear shocks on has been sat outside for years, she looks fine to be honest. im just worried im not going to be able to get parts for her. any ideas?

without the engine, your in a tricky position, trying to find a tlm50 engine is going to be neigh on impossible to find... dont get me wrong there will be an old engine sitting in someones garage, but thats not really going to help.

you may be able to get a mbx50 engine which won't be too far away from the original, with the bonus of it being a 6speed,
or a mbx125 which is almost the same physical dimensions,
the only problem being the expansion chamber, which in the case of the mbx's goes under the bike... not really suitable for trails Very Happy
or a tl125 might be an option

failing that.... well just get any small capicity air cooled engine and try and fit it, its never straight forward, but probably would be the best bet

realy? i didnt know they were that rare. the thing that got my looking at restoring it , is because my girlfriend has two fully restored tl125s, and they look great. so i thought id have a crack. and i want to restore it because, because its my first bike, so its realy important. i just wish i still had the engine. lol. if i remember rightly it had an 80cc bore on it. ive looked on the net and cant find a sausage. were they air cooled?

yeah they are quite rare, as they were only made for 3 years and 2 models, all the tl series bikes were air cooled
have a look at this vid this guy has put a nsr50 water cooled engine in the tlm frame

ive heard that an mt50 engine will fit straight in, but im not sure, surely someone in the know, would well, urm know. lol. the thing is i used to have an mt50 aswell as the trials bike but the mt has long gone. if it does go straght in im be guna be gutted lol. the other thing is, even if the mt 50 engine will go straight in, i imagine i would need an mt50 carb and air box wont it, or will i be able to use the orignal tlm air box?

you'd probably be able to use the tlm gear, the trails bikes are just tuned slightly differently via the exhaust,
good luck
