I have a bunch of DVD's I want to rip.

I usually use DVD shrink but they are 4.5gb iso's and when you have 40 of them, that's 200gb.

How do people rip to 700mb and keep the quality. I don't mind if it takes ages, I will let it do it overnight or something for each one.

I know this is geeky but that gets no views and want this sorting asap.

i use NERO, take them down to 700mb, don't lose any quality really, only a drop in the sound.

Gonna take you a while with 40 disks.... Now, I just wait for someone else at work who has MP4 movies and copy them

IIRC I think you could use WinAvi to convert the Vob files to .avi files, should take roughly 30 mins to an hour on an average system

It would probably be easier and quicker just to download the 700mb ish files off bittorrent than do your own rip.

I am going to try that Handbrake one, I have it installed but as soon as it gets going it uses 90% of my CPU and if I try to do anything my FPS goes from 110ish to 10 so I will leave it on when I go have some tea later.

I get 1mb broadband and capped at 30gb a month Sad

so it's not quicker. Plus these dvd's are all brilliant quality rips. Couldn't tell they were not official. Even have proper menus. Apparently the guy that did them went to prison for distributing pirated dvd's and he got out and carried on Laughing

I don't know him though. It was through various friends

Magic DVD Ripper is good then AVS Video Converter (but that costs a couple of quid).

A DVD will be an exact copy, there isn't any ripping involved when it's a DVD, of course you can't tell they're not official it's not very surprising that they had menus. Laughing

If you want fast and easy then you want to use Auto Gordian Knot but the results won't be as good.

Have a look over at doom9.org cos there's loads of info there.

And have you any idea how many DVDs he'd have to be turning over to get prison time?!? If he was jailed for it then he wouldn't be carrying on with on release, he'd be having an interesting time dealing with the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Bitripper will rip your 4.5GB iso to a 700MB avi
then use convert x to dvd 3 to compress them down and get 5 or 6 on one disk

Most encoders will do that. I usually leave my PC alone as well when doing it.
I currently use ConvertX.
