Hi all, I have here a problem with a derbi senda drd that refuses to keep running. Some times it will start but not tick over for long, sometimes it wont start at all. It has a very weak spark, there is fuel to the plug. The carb has been stripped and cleaned. the cdi/coil unit has been changed but still it is the same. Feel that the problem is electrical, but have no idea where to start to look from here. If no idea perhaps some one might be able to recommend a good repair shop around Witham Essex who repairs derbi bikes. Thanks Mike

Could be the HT lead or plug cap.

Or, as said, the plug itself.

Hi,
Have fitted a new plug and new HTlead. The problem seems to be before the coil/cdi unit. I dont think it has points and condenser so not sure where to look now. Thanks for suggestions anyway. Mike

Hi mate,

i have exactly the same problem with my senda Thumbs Down
and i've done exactly the same as you. New battery, spark plug, ht lead, plug cap and coil.
have you tried bump starting it? Mine always runs if i bump it but no idea what the problem is?
will sometimes start off the kick and then cut out shortly after.
Let me know if you find out!
Cheers, Jamie.

Could be your stator/magneto may be knackered, if it's starting & runs for a bit then cuts out it sounds like it's not producing/holding its charge.

i have receipts of the previous owner changing the stator shortly before i bought it (around 3 months ago). Thought it could be the tick over or float bowl stuck down but ticks over and runs really well once its been bumped. Think it could be something to do with fuel? It only starts on the kick after being left for a while then cuts out. When bumping it, you have to keep running for a bit with the clutch fully out! runs on a vacuum pump? Cheers.

My motorhispania had a problem like this, does it run for a while whilst you're riding it and then just die?

Mine would do that, i used to just take the spark plug out and close the gap a tiny bit, it would sometimes run fine after that, other times it would just die out again.

Its the time of year i think, 50's don't like cold weather. Just try and warm it up before setting off.
