I've just accidentally dropped an allan-key into the battery compartment, and it's disappeared. I'm concerned that it could have dropped somewhere vital. Is there anywhere it could have fallen that will crash the engine when I start her up? I'm also worried it'll fall out whilst riding, and land between the chain/sprocket. Any ideas where it's likely to have fallen? The bike's a Honda CBR6.

Thanks for any advice,
Dan.

It's definitely not under the battery - there's no space for it to go there. Whereever it's fallen, it's not in the battery section anymore.

Unfortunately, I'm at work and with limited tools to start taking things to bits. Especially as it's pissing it down Sad

I guess my main question was - is there anyway it could possible have fallen into the engine? Ie. could I trash my engine by starting it?

It can't have got into the engine (unless you were also topping-up your oil at the same time) so just keep on looking.

That's good to know. I've just tried starting the engine, and it didn't blow up! Smile Still can't find the bloody thing though. What's people thoughts about risking riding it home? Is it likely that it could get trapped in the chain and something else? Can't really start dismanteling it at work unfortunately.

Don't be silly - the CBR6 has an automatic powerband management system built into the fuel injectors...so there is no holder Wink

You lot don't know you're born. Africa Twin bashplates suck any nut or bolt you remove into their vast interior no matter how careful you are. I swear, I could walk to the other end of the garage and if I let go of a bolt it'd fly horizontally across to be lost inside the thing. I've even had the end of a magnetic probe snap off when trying to recover something without taking the poxy thing off!

I was timing up the cams on my GS and was doing up the cam journals with a socket in my hand when I dropeed it down the CC tunnel ! Embarassed

Luckily for me it was happily sitting on top of the bottom sprocket surrounded with camchain both sides. A daring op with an flexi-grabbery thing (is there a name for them - squeeze and the "legs" expannd out) got the bugger out and all was well.
