Hey people. I have the opportunity to buy a Aprilia RS 125cc some time soon. I have no biking experience but I want a bike so I thought I might as well. Is this a good deal:

It's done 4971.2 miles, registered 2001, looks in alright condition, just looks a bit dirty (i'll give it the TLC it needs), and it's going for £1,200. It's got nine months of tax left, and needs it's first MOT in August.

Any good?

all depends on the mechanical side of things. it coukd be a totaly mint bike, but have a fucked engine. get someone who knows a thing or two about two strokes to have a look at it. If they say its generally ok then go for it Thumbs Up

Thanks for replying DaFrostyOne, the problem is I don't know anyone who knows things about bikes, and I don't know much myself, will MOT not say? Should I ask him to get that done before I buy?

MOT is basic road worthyness. just things such as lights etc.
the engine could be on the verge of exploding and it would still pass an MOT.

I'm sure you can pay to get it checked out at a garage. £1,200 is very cheap for a bike like that, makes me a bit suspicious.

So if it was genuine, then it would be a good deal. I'll get it checked out a a garage somewhere near me if I can. Also, how much would two new tyres be? I have this thing where I don't want anyone else's tyres in-case the tread or something is rubbish on it, and I skid resulting in major pain. Also, how much is it to get a bike fully painted?

Hi

That is cheap for a bike of that age. However Aprilia panels are not that cheap to replace and nor are the stickers. A complete respray would probably cost you upwards of £400 in an original colour scheme.

The radial tyres on the RS are not that cheap. Expect to pay around £150 (and I would not bother unless they are needing replacement). Unless you know which tyres are which you have no way of telling if the tyres you are putting on are as good as the ones already on there.

A complete rebuild is something like £450 +vat from PJ Engineering (https://www.prox.co.uk).

All the best

Keith
