basically ive got a swelling oh the left teste, its about 3 times the size it should be, its red, and feckin painful.

Now ive been in hospital for the last couple of days and ive just got out, and the urologist said it would take 2 - 4 weeks before the swelling goes down. Was just wondering if any of you lot had any similar problems? And if theres and quicker way of reducing the swelling so i can get bk too work?

Thanks in advance
Chris

I had epididymitis a few months back, referred to as the 'dodgey bollock syndrome' Laughing

It was incredibley painful, well it was just sore when slouching around but walking or doing anything other than sitting was agonising. Even had a few days off work and missed 2 sessions of physio because of it.

I didn't go to the hospital, just went to the walk-in centre before physio, he just said i'd bruised it. Not sure how as i hadn't knocked it/sat on it or whatnot so saw my GP the next morning and he said that i had epididymitis.

He prescribed me a 7 day course of Doxycycline. Absolutley horrible, make you throw up etc etc but they did the trick and got rid of the majority of the pain and swelling within around 5 days.

It's 'testis', nominative singular noun, not 'teste'. The plural is 'testes'. Latin always sounds so much better than the bollocks modern man is used to.

Oh well.

Noooooo!! You can't go back to being a rent boy whilst you've still got this swelling like a small clementine!

Yes - tetracycline antibiotics help but their penetration isn't very good to the epididymal tissues; if you got a bolus of an intravenous shot and didn't have your arm drop off, then that would have been really good for speeding it up. Guess you've been through the hospital system enough and it can seem frustrating to have to hang around out of work for ages.

Guess it's down to ice packs and accepting that your body cannot be pushed through hoops, just to stay on the conveyor belt. Take the time off. As facetious as the poster above me is, castration is possibly your fastest route back to work if you're not willing to let your body take time to heal.

Aint it matt. They put me on doxycycline as well but they dint seem to work, which is why i went bk to primary care as the swelling was getting worse as was the pain. So they kept me in so they could get a scan on said "testis" ( did i get that right numptie? ) They switched my anti biotics to ciprofloxacin which seemed to work. However! I woke up this morning with a lump under my jaw, which is kinda leading me to think it might be mumps related?!? Theres been a fair few cases of my age group getting mumps recently. So it could be that. Will have to have a look see.

You're around my age (20) aren't you? We have a lad at work off with mumps and another guy i know has it.

Anyway, about the bump/lump under your jaw, it will just probably be a lympth (sp?) node, they tend to swell a little bit when fighting an infection. Mine always seem to swell up despite me feeling perfectly fine Laughing

Just been reading up on mumps and it would seem a 'complication' of mumps is having swollen bollocks. Although it would appear that you only have 1 (swollen that is Laughing ).

Fenton - Doxycyline doesn't cover as much as ciprofloxacin which kills about 99% of known bugs. Getting an IV bolus dose would help speed up recovery dramatically but you don't see NHS institutions doing that. If the swelling is getting worse, then you are at risk at losing one of your testes. Don't leave it too late if the pain doesn't subside.

Yeah - you need a USscan of your testes (plural: both need to be scanned: not just one testis. If one is scanned by itself, then they won't have a reference to compare it to).

Lol. We all have a lump under our jaws. It's called the Adam's Apple Very Happy

Did you not have mumps as a child? If not, then I guess you must've been a sheltered nancy boy with no acquired immunity. Very Happy

Are you sure it's just one lump, and that there aren't more when you check carefully down the diagonals of your neck and the back, as well as your arm pits? Most likely, you might have some swollen lymph nodes from an infection. Best to let your doctor know. Mumps are mumps - they'll come in lots! Not just singles....

It's 'testis' singular, and 'testes' plural: it's 'lymph nodes', not 'nymph thingys'. Nymphs are fraulein prostitutes who live by the water dancing and flirting and get abducted by hunky half-men half-horse centaur like creatures.

Sounds like you're going to need some rest. If the swelling still causes you pain in the next 48 hours and isn't going down, go back to A/E or hospital and ask them if they would consider giving you an intravenous shot of antibiotics. At the end of the day, they don't know what bug is causing the orchitis and inflammation of the epididymal glands, but ciprofloxacin is the next best thing to oral domestos.......

Lighten up and give it a chance Smile

I have constant pain with something along the same lines.. I hate it. After several years I got it checked and was given the all clear, still aches most of the time.

I've had a few 'down there' probles too. Haven't we all. It's life.

A mate of mine died at 19 of testicular cancer. . Noticed a lump.. 8 weeks later dead.
