From what I can decipher, it sounds like it's a classic case of poor posture. The reason I say this is because I also suffer the same, and in fact am in a certain level of pain every single day as a result of not listening to my parents when they told me not to slouch. That's Karma for you. I now have to consioucly remember to sit in a particular "correct" position to stop it getting worse.

Some back exercises will really help, try lying face down on the floor, put your hands on your head and lift and hold your chin 6 inches up. This simple exercise works wonders for me.

Unfortunately there isn't something you can "wear" (aside from maybe a compression jacket with a steel rod up the back!); you just need to improve your posture when sitting and riding.

Hope that helps.

Edit: Although it feels fine when you slouch, DON'T. You're only making it worse in the long term!

I thought about making something like that, but decided against it, as.... I'd just be making a lot more work and hassle for myself in the future.

Ahem.

I read in a magazine somewhere about how minimal adjustments to your riding position can improve comfort and bike feel considerably. Have you tried sitting further back or further forward to see what effect that has on your back?

I tend to find me being slightly a bit big for my bike (about 6'2" on a VFR400) that sometimes moving forward or backwards relieves the occasional pain I get in my back and also it helps with the pains I sometimes get in my knees.

Erm, no. A back protector is designed to curve with your spine as you bend, it won't correct posture like that support will.

Cheers

A plank of wood with a shed load of bungees would sort your posture out, too.

it may not fully support, but will provide some resistance to slouching surely?

I very much doubt it, bad posture, especially in the back can cause the muscles and eventually the bones of the spine to change shape. Once they have done this it is often more comfortable to slouch than to remain upright.

That sort of surgical support is elasticated and has a rigind centre section, a back protector is non-rigid and will follow the existing curvature of your back.

Cheers

Grim

Grim is absolutely right; back protectors are far too flexible to offer any posture support. I can vouch for this as I wear one!
