scooter ran ok but now dosent ..help please

hi my scooter is a lifan benda pioneer bd125t(gy6)

had it on road beggining of december fired first time and ran great(i might do 50 km per day,the only trouble was coming to a stop at junctions it would cut out but then fire again straight away.

i felt it might be the idle mix,whoever adjusting changed nothing so to stop this happening i had throttle open when at a stop using brakes to hold it.

this all worked fine but then late in december the bike would only do about 20mph for a mile then would go back to normal.

however at the beginning of january bike would take ages to start,couple of days later would not start at all,now i might have to use a full battery charge to get it to start but then it runs fine as long as throttle is held open a bit.

i changed the oil on day one,checked the battery on a multimeter felt for compression,also has a full tank.

i checked for a spark and it looked fine although there was some carbon on the tip.i got a spark by grounding it

my only thoughts it could be the automatic choke or flooding in some way

i tested the choke with a multimeter and got a reading.next i need to connect it to a battery but dont have the parts.

could someone show me how this is done as the connecters are inside the plastic bit.

or is there something else i should check for?

sounds like it might be the jets in the carb blocked take the carb apart and blow the jets out............

also to add fuel pump and fuel filter is fine,fuses are fine,checked the air filter and it was clean as a whistle which seemd a bit strange,bike has done 3000km also the air in dosent seem to be tight it wobbles when you waggle it,would this have anything to do with it?vaccum perhaps?

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw to stop it cutting out?

It does sound like a fueling problem, although i doubt the auto choke is broken already. If you put 12v to the choke it should slowly extend. It might take a few minutes and do it very slow so keep watching it.

As for cleaning the jets, you just have to take the bottom of the carb off and remove the small brass things and blow them through with compressed air. Make sure you don't press down on the floats as it might change the float height and make it leak petrol.

You shouldn't need to buy a new gasket unless the old one is broken. Plus it's a o-ring and can be used loads of times.

Do yourself a favour and put a new (as in, brand new, from shop, not a cleaned up one) spark plug in it before you dismantle anything. If it improves, you've either fixed it entirely or you'll have confirmed it's an ignition fault - which is usually the case where the performance kicks in and out the whole time and twiddling screws on the carb does nothing useful.

hi i was riding my aprilia sr50 2001 model and it was running nice and smooth and i pulled over to the side swithced it off for about 5 minutes and then wen i went to switch it back on again my battery had died so about 1hour later i had my battery charged but it wouldnt start again but it sounded like it wanted to and it just wouldnt and its been bout 1month now and still not starting the egnition is working fine and it is turning over when i use the electric start but just wont start and baring in mind wen it stopped working it was runnin off about an empty tank but it now has over half a tank but still wont run and i was just wondering if anyone new what is wrong with it thanks.

come to think of it i do remember riding through a large patch of rock salt i wonder if this combined with the weather does anything?

Spark plug first, then idle screw. Don't go fiddling with the micture screw or anything if you don't know what you're doing.

Bear in mind that this is a lifan, so they can be hard to diagnose. Really unusual, terminal faults crop up on nearly new bikes. The build quality is terrible.

i put a new spark plug in seemed a little better,what ive noticed is i have to have the throttle open just a tad for it to start,whereas before it would not start with any throttle.

still stalls when idling tho.just dont quite trust it,

Sounds like a clogged idle jet in the carb.

would it be worth trying redex? also is there anywhere in uk that sells those gallon cans of carb dip with a basket in it?

i took the carb out jets were clean put it back in tested didnt start so i drained the float chamber a couple of times petrol is getting through fine.put it all back together and for 2 minutes the starter did nothing,i think i may have had some cables loose maybe earthing.

tidied them up tried again and i could hear it firing but wouldnt catch so i gunned the revs a bit and it started but when i stop i have to wait 40 seconds or so before it fires again.

so now i have to keep revs up to keep it going plus after 2 or 3 stops she dosent start for about half an hour.

its not the carb,oil,spark plug,petrol or electrics at fault.

where should i look next???

p.s i couldnt check the diaphragm on carb everything is screwed on super tight so i havent checked the drive either
