Hay all, I'm about to get a bigger bike Very Happy which I'll be keeping outside my house in a not brilliant but not the worst part of Liverpool.

When my dad had his bike (old suzuki 100) outside the house the local scrots were forever trying to nick it. They buggered the ignition barrel then when they couldn't start it (they were very cr@p Rolling Eyes ) they decided to start pushing it over to trash it. This was going back a good few years now.
Now all my dad had was a crappy tiny padlock and chain (the type that wouldn't look secure on a peddle bike! Shocked ) chained to the lada he had at the time.

I'm planing on having a Almax chain/squire lock, bolt down anchor, alarmed disk lock, and bike cover.
Now my question is is it worth getting a concrete in ground anchor and/or a motorcycle alarm (cheap one off e-bay) as well?

Thanks all Thumbs Up

It's well worth finding a motion sensitive 120DB alarm in my honest opinion Thumbs Up

The anchor and GOOD chain is what is going to stop it from getting nicked (well, if someone has target your bike, it is gone whatever you do ... but it WILL stop opportunists walking by and the less well equipped/lazy thief). These days alarms are just totally ignored by the public - and therefore by the scrote ...

If it is outside your house, then for your own peace of mind it might be worth getting an alarm (hopefully you will hear it and can react if you are in the house).

In short, the lock and anchor are the ones you want to spend good money on, any old alarm should do, so don't spend big money on one (unless you get one that is a multi point immobilizer too).

Nothing prevents a bike from being stolen better than having a reputation of someone who will do serious and permanent damage to potential thieves. Obviously it's not a good idea to actually maim anyone...but if you can make the chavs think you might, that's the battle won Wink

Thats what i have done on the strom. Ive wired the indicator flasher to the stebel relay when the alarm goes off the stebel sounds with the indicators. The indicators flash to quickly for the stebel to hit full DB output but its still a hellova lot louder than the alarm itself.

Yes it is (especially a nice cheap one).
Ideally one that works in parallel with your ignition system (i.e. if your alarm fails you do not want to be stranded, you want to be able to unplug it and ride). If it helps the "advanced motorcycle alarm v3" i got from that site works like that. This is a less secure arrangement (unplug = no alarm OR immobiliser), but worth it imo, after all, your main security IS your chain / anchor point / frame of your bike (please don't put the almax through the front wheel and think it's secure...)

An alternative worth considering is a talking alarm (downside: might do your head in and you end up disabling it completely - upside: people will pay more attention to it the first time or 2 it goes off).

Regarding anchor points, it better be a lamp post or equivalent otherwise you're at risk of just having the "anchoring" item cut rendering your great chain useless.

I use a cover (often held down with a bicycle cable lock) and/or motion sensing alarm+immobiliser, Almax 3 (lamp post -> frame of bike when possible), and the bike's own steering lock. And the bike is datatagged. The bike? A 1995 CB500 (it's worth so much more than you'd expect to me). That may be overkill. I don't care Razz

I looked at the V3 but it's a bit more expensive than I was thinking. I'll have to see what funds I can scrape together.

My ground anchor will be a hardie anchor, I was planning on looping the chain through the rear wheel and swing arm. Front wheels are a bad idea.

Another tip is to try and keep the chain off the ground, stops any decent leverage being gained.

Best tip, remember to always put the effort in to put all this stuff on each time, cos the one time you think "I just have sank to eat then sort the bike out" is the time your bike goes.... trust me..... Sad

Yes Mira. you could bite their ankles. Laughing

I would get a ground anchor and a good chain or two, the alarm and cover are good ideas too.

True story, this. There was a notorious thieving shitbag who used to plague the estate where my mate lived. Said mate caught said shitbag attempting to cut the lock off his DTR125...

Shitbag was discovered stark naked, D-locked by the neck to a lamppost by the old bill...who took several hours to secure the services of the fire brigade to cut lock and free thieving scumbag.

I understand the tea leaf decided to curtail his activities after this incident, at least on that estate Laughing

A meta 357 or 375 or whatever they're called can be wired to a horn, so its very easy to wire to your stebel nautilus idea. Thumbs Up
I can wire them. Thumbs Up Wink

Alarms can easily have a wire cut, or be zapped before the bike is touched so they don't go off. Solid security is the only way.

It's an awesome idea, trick is not to be recognized or have them too fearful to mention they were caught. Wink

I've got some spare alarms I could probably put your way for not much cash Mira.

They are noise-only though and won't immobilise, but can be fitted wherever you can find space on the bike (mine is under the seat on my Zephyr), are activated by movement (and you can adjust the sensitivity), attach directly to the battery terminals, don't drain your power and have a remote fob to turn them on and off.

OH says a tenner plus postage or you can come and collect seeing as we are just up the road a bit. He has a few different makes to the one in the pic but they are all broadly similar.
