Well as you know, my CG was written off Cat B.
Metal Ken offered me a new frame for it, which i will be picking up later today.

Anyways.

I'll need to get the bike from one end of my town to the other, which involves walking quite a fair bit as i don't have a trailer.

What are the legalities?

I'm thinking i should take my insurance, my V5 and my driving licence if i do get stopped... The bike is still on the insurance register, so what will they say if i do get stopped pushing it on the side of the road?

Depends on if they are a cunt or not.

If they are not a cunt, they will say:

"Excuse me sir. Is this your vehicle?"
"Yes officer."
"Can I just ask you for a few details to confirm it's yours sir, just so we know you haven't stolen it."
"No problem officer." *show documents*
"That all appears to be in order sir, have a safe journey."

If they are a cunt they will say:

"Oi you."
"Yes officer."
"Don't yes officer me sunshine. Where do you think you're going with that? Where have you nicked it from?"
"I'm taking it home for a pre-arranged repair."
"And I'm the queen mother. Got your documents?"
"As it happens, I do." *shows documents*
"So if you have all that, why aren't you riding it?"
"Well, as you can see it's been in an accident, I'm taking it to be repaired."
"So it's not roadworthy then?" *Trumps up fine for broken flasher while trying to think of some excuse to confiscate the bike. Section 59 is a possability because he doesn't have to prove anything.*

Hopefully all goes well, police around here aint too bad, as i've spoken to them a lot Laughing

In a good way, of course.

I'll re-attatch the broken indicator Wink

Only visable damage is the side panel, and the rear brake pedal, as well as the left footpeg.

Think i could ride it if it's still on the insurance register?

Laughing

What is a road?
We have seen that it can be an offence to 'ride on land other than a road' without the owner's permission. It is worth noting that, as well as the carriageway; pavements, verges and footpaths alongside roads are considered as being part of the road. Therefore, pushing a motorcycle along the footpath means it is on the road, and all of the usual laws and requirements for street legal motorcycles apply. These include: tax, MOT, registration and insurance.

I'd push it.

Technically it has to be roadworthy but most coppers would show some discression.

It's like it's technically illegal to have your car up on an axle stand while parked at the side of the road outside your house to fix the brakes because its on the road with defective brakes. You'd have to be a complete arsehole to do someone for it.

No you don't.
Once upon a time yes.
However, that requirement was dropped quite some time back.

Same. I pushed my Chaly and TZR home without any issues. The police went past me once when I was pushing my RXS and they didn't even stop. I was wearing my motorcycle jacket and had the helmet clipped to the grab rail though.

Does this mean that if my bike breaks down in town and I attempt to push it home I am breaking the law?

My chain has fallen off it's rear sprocket multiple times (Embarassed) but that is something I've managed to fix at the road. Also, I didn't realise the RAC and AA were operating such huge illegal enterprises Shocked

I suppose it depends on what you class as road worthy. Tehcnially, no key in the ignition of a car makes it un-roadworthy because it has no way of being driven if I want to be pedantic. Is this then similar to a fault that can easily be fixed at the roadside? And for the police to prove it wasn't road worthy surely it would need to be taken to an MOT centre anyway. Maybe they would be stupid and demand the vehicle is recovered, who knows.

Just food for thought. I personally would push it.

My clutch cable snapped when out riding so had to push it home. The police passed me several times whilst I pushed it on the path and they didn't stop. I had my jacket on and my helmet was under the net on the pillion. Even sat on it and rode it down hill on the path with the engine off and they still didn't stop me.

I need to push mine but I have to push it over the A19.

https://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/carl_steveo/A19.jpg

I don't think the police would appreciate me pushing it 5.5 miles and over on ramps and stuff.

I used to push my completely illegal offroad bike with no proof of ownership etc. for a good 10 minutes to get there/back from where I used to do my offroading. Never got a peep. I think really the only issue would be ownership to be honest. But if quota's are down, the police WILL find something to do you on.

If it's on the road then you're meant to have all the paperwork (license, insurance, tax & MOT). There really isn't any need to practice for your CBT.
