Polishing ,whats best way ?

Anyone help ? am considering polishing the frame and swinger on my zxr400 as the factory paint is abit flakey in places and looks pants , anyone know of any way to remove paint easily ? have had a go with nitromors ,it works but seems to struggle getting through the primer , also once done is there a product that i can cover the polished frame in to stop it greying ???

I wouldn't recommend polishing the frame - some potential future buyers would think the bike's been stacked, and the polished finish is masking this somewhat.

I prefer a more hands on approach - although rather laborious than using polishing mops, I prefer a more sadistic approach - wet and dry has given some fantastic results in my old polishing days.

Worked much in the same way as in paint preparation, work up the grades, getting finer and finer finishes, up until a 1500 grit. Work in some Autosol, then finish off with something like Belgom Alu - which will also add a wax layer of protection.

Without a finish, the polished surface will require regular 'polishing up' to keep it looking gleaming.

A simpler route could be for the bike to stripped down to the frame, and then have this Aerocoated - minimal need to keep this polished too, as it would be like a mirror finished tough as nails powdercoat.

Yeah think ill be going down the elbow grease road , more personal than attacking it with drills and mops ,think ill do sumat with the subframe because that looks abit shabby , cheers

Hey up, im a polisher by trade, Done a few frames inc my own on the CRF, as well as the exhaust and a couple of other bits (have to excuse the pics they were taken with a phone cam, look a lot better in reality):

Best way is a hand polisher + 3hours a coffee and some music and locking the garage door. Then getting on with it away from distractions.

^^ Was done starting with black wax + stitched mop then white + semi stiched then blue + loose mop. If i want i can go up to a special compound to get a super finish but i didn't think it was worth it.

When ya do it go over with something like Belgom blue as it will leave a small coating on it which helps with cleaning it (like the prevoius guy says)

Twin-pack lacquer over it when ya have finished if ya can't be arsed with the blue but its quite expensive if your only doing one job.
