Cause they look completely different, from the size right down to the colour and he neck banding. Shocked

Pretty sure your neighbours might have something to say if you start shooting either. Laughing

The Wood Pigeon looks very clean and edible. Markings as per above pic

Feral pigeons tend to be scruffy, dirty looking things. Markings are as above but can be speckled gray black too.

Make sure what you're shooting isn't a racing pigeon though. From what I can tell, they look very similar to feral pigeons. I would assume racers would have an ankle band on though.

My advice would be to read up on the relevent laws join a few shootig forums and use the right equipment for the job.

You dont want pointed pellets there for long range shots you would need domed or hollowpoints for pigeon at such close range or you will overpenetrate.

Practice and learn to aim with the gun everyone thinks there the dogs ball when they shoot as they can hit a few cans but in truth they cant shoot for shit.
You want to able to shoot at least 1" groupings at the range you will be shooting before you take on live targets.
Make sure the guns up to the job 12flb minimum.

Also bear in mind all its gonna take is one person to spot you be it a neighbour or passer by and call the police and your gonna be in deep shit with the law.

(Discharging the firearm within 50ft of the centre of a public place (neighbours garden) or highway (includes a footpath) in a manner likely to cause a nuisance/endanger persons using that highway.)

= Big fine a firearms record and possibly be charged for cruelty to animals if any shot birds are found.

A guy in the local rag was fined £2000 for shooting one pigeon in his back yard.

I dont mean to be a stick in the mud but its better to let you know the laws than to have you getting fucked over by a bored copper.

good plan. i used to do that when i was bored in summer at a mates house.

grab the rifle, find a sniping point, chuck some seeds on the table and retreat to the fallback position.

bluetits from range were good ones.
most memorable being shot at a bluetit, it legged it, thought id missed, and as it flew over our heads, it just died and landed about a foot in front of us.

another was a jay. shot it right in the fucking mouth and exploded its head a little. protected species my ass

I remember having a cheapo russian rifle, the BAIKAL IZH-61. Absolute wank; you could see the pellet dropping it was that pathetic.

Anyway, one indiscriminate summer day, I took up my pos rifle and started pretending that I'm Grant from ultimate force. With my 20x20 vision, I spot a load of crows on the neighbour's roof and so I took a potshot - Not really aiming for it, just firing it.

Well, I saw the pellet leave the gun and the trajectory was spot on. It hit the crow and the crow did this weird jump, wings still flat to its body as it plummeted out of sight, as if to say 'fuck I've been shot!' All the other crows starting making a racket - it was really bloody loud - I put the gun away and left the room as if nothing happened; my ultimate force persona locked away with the rifle. The first thing the ex said was 'what have you done?'

So, after that little debacle, I would every so often see a crow around my area, that couldn't fly, just hop about. My dad, who is a bird lover, would mention that he would see the same crow feeding of his lawn.

I felt proper guilty about that!
