I've scrapped the idea of a Buell for now unless one is close to try rather than drive for hours. So, tried a few others out ib the show room and I'm a little surpised at how they feel.
I may be getting old but Jesus the seats?! It's like having a c@nt punt just sitting on them?
First off was the GSXR 1000 and 750.
The power and awesomeness in the flesh is enough to be nervous with the right hand, to start with anyways. Weight wise felt good with no real difference between the 2 but felt like I had a wedgie. Salesmen were a little anal and annoying in my eyes. Quite a lot of money too!
Kawasaki 10R and the 6R
I am a Kwak man deep down and like the GSXRs they look stunning in the flesh, especially the new paint schemes, but once sat on, meh? Didn't feel special like when I first got my 7R. I was more taken with the z1000? That's an angry looking bike!
Today came the Anglo Italians, Ducati hypermotard, KTM Duke III and then various triples at Triumph.
Both the Ducati and KTM are very upright and almost on the front wheel kind of riding position. Not the most natural for me and a little awkward with the flat bars. The hypermotard looks cool with the hand bars and mirrors but filtering with it? As for commuting on a big single, hmmm not sure. The RC8 they had new for less than 8k on the other hand, very nice.
Off I went to Triumph and from the first cock of a leg the Speed and Street triple R are clear in the lead. The bog standard street is nice but the R feels so much better, maybe it's in the mind.
I still want to try a Beemer out for size but so far it has to be the Triple in one guise or another.
When I've got a spare day and weathers nice I'll go back and have a little test ride.
Just some random musing. ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

Speed triples are very nice bikes. Wouldn't mind one myself. ____________________ My Flickr |

I've never had a big problem with thin seats admittedly, but I've found my GSXR one to be fine - probably prefer it to the puffy SV650 ones to be honest. It's fairly narrow, but not as much as dirt bikes (at the back anyway) and seems to do the job fine.
I haven't ridden a street triple R, but in the Buell 'genre', that's definitely one I'd go for fun if I had the cash I reckon (well, I'd get a cheap daytona 675 and convert it probably, but that's another matter ).
The RR BMW is going to be more of the GSXR mould as far as I know and I doubt the others will match the trumpets for 'precision' on the road. |
