Hi,

This is my first ever post so bare with me.

I have a Hyosung 125 Cruise 2 which I have been riding for about a year and a half. About 4 months ago I put it away in a garage as I was going back to Northern Ireland for a few months.
It ran perfect before I left, other than a flat tyre and and a slight engine oil leak.
Since I have been home I have tried to start it but have had no joy.
There is Petrol and enough engine oil still in the bike so thats fine.
When I press the start button it tries to turn over but it won't catch. I think the battery is fine as the lights and horn are grand.

Can anyone give me a bit of advice on what things I can try myself to fix it?

Sounds like a flat battery, see if you can give it a charge, or bump/jump from another battery.

Lights etc don't use half as much power as the starter, so the fact that they are working doesn't mean your battery is fine.

Where in N.I. were you? I'm from Warrenpoint, near Newry.

EDIT: sorry just seen you said the motor does turn over but it wont fire the engine.

Try changing the petrol, drain the carb, and have a look at the spark plug.

If you can get a can of easy-start try that before changing petrol etc.

Sorry replied in other thread!!

Try new fuel and see if that helps! Either top up if already low or drain and refill.

But the starter button seems to be working fine... I will try it of course tho.

I was in Derry, Newry is a lovely place I like it down there.

Will also replace the fuel, it's all worth a try!

Fuel has probably gone stale and left a varnish in your carb, So invest in some redex or carb cleaner... as well as a full tank of fresh fuel and a new spark plug (Or 2 if a twin)
I can pretty much guarantee it'll start up after that =P

The most important bit is to drain the carbies and give it some fresh fuel.

Jump starting it from a big car battery is also a good move as bike batteries tend to be marginal.

charge the battery anyway. 4 months in the cold is a long time for an unused battery

As I doubt she'll update this herself...

Oil changed. Charged the battery, and it was fine (started my F650 with no issues, and that's been stood for over 18months)! No spark though. Replaced plug, and have a new coil+lead on the way.

I made her put her thumb over to try the pressure - that was amusing to watch! Twisted Evil

Will update when the new coil arrives.

You say it has terrible earthing, is there anything she could do (read 'I can do') to resolve that?

Well theres 2 wires on the starter, wire the earth cable directly to an earth spot on the frame.

See if you can bump start it beforehand...

invest in a trickle charger, about £50. My old man swears by them, ive got one and its great. It doesnt use electricity as long as your battery is charged, but if the charge drops a bit, it automatically kicks in and brings it back upto level. Some can bbring totally dead batterys back to life, i had a battery which would not charge from anything for love no money, but put my trickle charger on and now its like a new battery.
Great item, excellent investment!

have you tried bumping it yet..

start from scratch, take out spark plug, crank it over and check compression.

See if there is a spark. if not check the ht lead and cap.
Try a new spark plug if HT lead appears to be working.
Make sure there is oil in the bike.
pour a small amount of petrol down the bore and insert plug and attempt to fire it up.
if there is still f-all, check the earths.. mainly the starter one, make sure the connections are clean everywhere.

Bump start it...get those legs working!
