The cost of petrol

Is now officially fucking ludicrous. It cost me £8 to fill up the old RXS today (with 110 miles on the trip meter). This time last year it was around £5.50 for the same amount.

I'm put off riding larger/thirstier bikes by the frankly insane cost of fuel. Seventy-odd percent goes to those useless fat bastards in the govt, so they can bail out the banks, fiddle their expenses and squander our money on assorted pointless shite.

How long is this madness going to continue? Will we ever see unleaded below a quid a litre again? I shudder to think how much it would cost to run a moderately fun 2 stroke like a Powervalve 350 these days

I would be very surprised if fuel ever goes below £1.00 a litre again. It's likely to be £1.50 in a couple of years, sadly. The Government has to pay off their debt somehow, and as we all know the motorists will have to foot the bill.

Over the years I've rarely thought much about the cost of fuel. Bikes that go through it at a scary rate are usually fun rides you don't use day to day. But now even filling small and economical things is costing silly money.

my XR gets 80/90mpg but it still pisses me off the price of fuel! used to cost me £6 a week in fuel now its more like £9! i know i used about just under 5L of fuel every 100 miles!

I believe everyone is going to end up on a CG/XR in the end as no one will be able to afford bigger fuel drinking bikes lol

I got 105 miles to £16 odd of fuel today. Shouldn't have bombed it home last night. 35 miles to the fucking gallon. I wanted another thou' but did I want these running costs?

I'm seriously considering getting another CG. The old RX is only returning about 70 to the gallon now the motor is so old and worn. I would get a rebore but I think the big end is due to cark is soon

Maybe even a C70. I used to get about 150 to the gallon out of mine. Top speed of about 45 probably wouldn't be too bad, with nearly everyone else on the road pottering along to use less fuel.

I sat on a CBF125 the other day, and was surprised at how small it didn't feel. If it truly gets 130mpg, I'd consider downgrading from the CB500. Shame there's no kickstart, carb or petrol tap though.

As we all know oil is bought in Dollars on the open market,if the pound is weak it costs more,having said that the pound has recently rallied a little but it takes time to filter through to the pump prices (so i'm told),a barrel of crude is at a high of ????,cant remember off the top of my head,anyway all the above pus 75p in the pound in tax does not help !!!!!!!!!!!!.
No defence i hate it to especially when my old Bandit 12 does about 35 mpg ridden normally which is slightly less than me old Toyota Corolla 1300
Oh and err being a fat bastard like me doesn't help

I remember posting not too long ago that it would cost me just under £17 to fill my bike up from fuel light being on, this week it cost me just over £20 for a very similar amount of fuel (210 miles worth). Saw fuel today at £1.21 a litre

Remember the fuel protests not too long ago when it was going over 80p a litre, now we all just accept the recent price hikes in fuel.

Liking the sound of the CBF. Even looks quite nice, which is a bonus.

I've been waiting patiently for fuel protests to kick off. I remember the ones back in 2000. I had seven bikes at the time and made sure every one had a full tank Most of the stations round here ran out. There was a two mile queue at Tesco. The country was on the verge of meltdown - and it bloody worked.

Something has got to happen. Any business that relies on lorries, cars, bikes and vans is going to be hit extremely hard. This time last year I was paying about 88p for a litre of fuel and it's now £1.20 at the supermarkets (which I don't like using) and £1.23 elsewhere.

It's all I've known unfortunately. The price of oil on the open market is ridiculous and that's obviously driven up british prices, but I agree that that tax is too high. I wish there was a decent alternative fuel around...

edit: Just read that 70 from the RXS is low? I got 65mpg from my last tank. Although some of that was 40 miles of top end riding to southend and back. What speed do you go most of the time and what rev range?

Usually around 55-60mph. Get 90mpg with care and a reasonable motor.

Im dreading when i pass my A2 and get on my Hornet, 35Mpg if you ride it sensibly....

I think bikes are soon going to make a shift from power to economy, which is what basically killed all fun cars :/

I checked out the fuel consumption today for my runabout, a YBR125. Over the last 6 months its been averaging just over 125mpg.

I did consider purchasing a CBF125, but the much cheaper OTR price and the free Yamaha fully comp insurance made the decision a bit of a no-brainer.
