What bike?

I have a 2000 CBR600f, 17k on the clocks and in fairly good nick. I like it, comfy enough and plenty of power. Unfortunately its got to go, I think.

A few weeks ago I start doing CBT training again. The problem is that the CBR doesn't cope well with the two hours on the road at 10-30 mph and I cannot U turn the sodding thing to save my life.

I have no money but need a bike to do the CBT's on. It must also be used for the daily commute and for fun. Only option seems to be to sell the CBR and buy something else, but I have no idea what.

Any ideas of a 'perfect' bike? Must be over 599cc.

Normally I'd stick it on ebay but are there any sites where I can offer it up for a swap?

Naked bikes? With the wide bars it's piss easy to u-turn. Could u turn easily on my Hornet...

I assume when you say CBT you are the instructor

Daily commute won't be good on petrol though.

Is there any chance you can keep the CBR for fun? And buy something dirt cheap for CBT training?

There is not one perfect bike. I would have thought you would be able to keep the cbr, and have a general run around for doing cbt instruction.

Running more than one bike isnt necessarily very expensive, and you arent short of a bob or two.

The obvious choice for cbt instruction, would be a knackered old er5 or cb500.

Did you sell your yam cruiser to get the cbr ? If not, why not use that for the cbt stuff.

Dont so the swap thing as you limit your market. You would need to find someone who has what you need, and needs what you want.

Col: Sold the cruiser last year, I did use it for CBTs before then, not good. The second bike option isn't really an option at the moment due to personal reasons. I thought of swapping out of pure laziness but I guess your right.

Alexio: When you take 3 new riders out on the road you need something to keep them under control, part instructor, part Shepard.

I'd be thinking - down gear it a bit, so it feels more comfortable at low speed. Go and get some training to do U-turns .
(Or you could see if you can adjust the lock stops a bit and maybe fit some wider bars.)

Plenty of sites you can request a px. See the sticky at the top of this forum for a list of bike buying/selling sites.

For CBTs something like a F650 might be a good option - rather slower than your average over 600, but cheap to get, should be quite easy to use and most have good turning circle I believe.

Are you looking for something with a similar value to the CBR? Or to add some money to the pot, or to take a bit back out and have a cheaper bike?

If the same kind of ball park then I suspect a 600 Fazer would be my choice, as you should have plenty of choice at that price..

G: Good idea on the down gearing Hadn't thought of that one and it would help the problem I have of riding a bike at low rev's that doesn't seem to work well below 3k. U turns? I don't know if its me or the roads around here but last time I got off and pushed it round and there was no way it would turn in the space available. I tried the Japanese police thing ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWaq0zOaAVU ) but just fell off I like the idea of a F650.

If you practice, it’s quite possible to turn on full lock, which should do you for most streets you making newbs turn in I’d have thought.
Worth checking your lock stops – may have been made a bit tighter at some point, or may still have some space to give you a bit of extra turning.

I dropped the KLR once playing turning it on full lock; but it’s lock stops had been damaged and it’s turning circle was barely bigger than the wheelbase.
The whole thing is to get your instincts used to pulling on the power as it starts to fall – counter intuitive, but works.
The local IAM group teaches slow speed control, but not at lock – I found it pretty easy and didn’t really ‘learn’ from it. At an enduro school, they taught turning on full lock and made us go round in circles for some time until we could do it constantly without falling over at full lock.
