Gordon Brown has finally stepped aside and handed the poisoned chalice to David Cameron. We are facing some uncertain times.

He'll be back,

I read a funny joke that was actually horrifying on guytv

The I M F appoint Gordon Brown as chief.

In comes Gordon Brown to tell the UK how to run the economy…

I think you'll find that that is Lib/Dem policy, not Tory policy Laughing

Yup, that's what'll happen to us, same as always. It's just a different cock up our collective arses.

Over 6 million people are employed by the public sector.

Far too many.

Not in every department.

There is certainly wastage, but it's not all about chopping civil servant jobs.

This is true. You'll find in most departments that every project doesn't have enough staff. If you want to cut the number of civil servants you need to cut projects and provide fewer public services.

Public services here aren't just health and education, you have all of the policy workers developing legislation, representing the UK in Brussels, running the departments corporate services, working out how to pay subsidies more efficiently and a whole raft of other things. If you cut the number of the people working on it, you get poorly written, poorly consulted legislation that isn't fit for purpose.

Cutting projects is always a struggle. Take climate change projects, for everyone dead against them you've got someone else dead for them.

Always interested to see a change, of course we're all going to pay some extent, not much you can do about that really.

On cutbacks in the public sector, putting to one side it was the private sector in the shape of banks that put us where we are as well as a bloated public sector, every day some initiative, web site, website tool or project appears on our intranet and 95% if it is shit.

Its people desperately trying to justify their position. An online 'solution' called CLEAR (clinical enquiry and response service.) What's wrong with asking colleagues?? I can scroll down from that and every single intiative I see (with the possible exception of something about proper sleep patterns and cancer) could be axed.

I have no idea how they'll cut the operating deficit, will benefits go or will public sector jobs go. Will they raise taxes (of course they will) or what.

Like I said, it'll be interesting. I'd look very closely at the money the UK contribute to the EU versus what we get out in real terms (trade etc) before I started humping people out of public sector jobs they took in good faith.

Thumbs Up

Yes, yes and yes. They don't really have much choice, the financial black hole that Labour created has to be dealt with.
