I want to take my wife somewhere nice for a week to 10 days, she will not fly, terrifies her, unless she is under sedation! Confused

Happy to go most places resonably close via land, any suggestions welcome. Cool

Who ever comes up with the winning suggestion can come with us for free..................... Wink (just kidding....)

So, is flying out of the question?

My mate is also terrified, but the Doc gives him valium - that and 5 buds makes him ready for anything!

If you can get your wife to fly, I'd recommend an overnighter to South Africa or Fiji

Flying is definitely out. It is not so much the flight that is the problem, she takes demarzipan (Spelling) it is the couple of days build up to the flight that is the problem, ruins the holiday.

So it must be travel over land or water.

lol, flash git. Hmm... where will I take my missus when I have the cash... I'd like to go to gay Paris for a weekend but for a proper holiday some where warm, relaxing, QUIET (I hate noise [here comes the stupid comments]). Like to go Florida, or perhaps even the Coral Reef. Slyly ask her...

I think it's Diazepam, is it to calm her nerves and relax her?

I hear Venice is very nice as well as Prague but you'll have to go via Eurostar or Le Shuttle if you missus won't fly. If you're looking for a quiet place in the UK then Salcombe in Devon has to be a choice but it all depends what you wan't really.

How about a nice week in Southern Ireland, you could get the ferry there, I can highly recommend Dublin or County Wicklow.

I had a holiday in Dublin myself this year and can give you the numbers to some decent hotels etc.

Flash g1t! I will tell you flash mate.

Buckets on standby!!

I wanted to really surprise my wife on her birthday with something very romantic, saved up some money, secretly and booked us in at Gordon Ramsey at Claridges, got a brand new Bentley to pick us up and take us there and back, we had a delightful 6 course meal, then I asked the driver to take us somewhere nice by the river to have an evening walk and look at the lights of London.

With his extensive knowledge of London he took us to a lovely secluded spot. I also arranged for the driver to then give her some red roses from me.

The evening was brilliant! Food was wonderful....

Oh and the car was mental, 6.7litre, twin turbo, 0 - 60 in 5.3 secs. I tried my best to not talk about cars all night though. He gave us a blast off the lights, I think his computer was reading 8mpg at one point! LOL

Sorry, I digress. I think it is fine to spend the money on something really nice, I know she loves castles, we stayed in one up in Scotland which was nice, so perhaps something different to that.

Yes please buddy, I never thought of Ireland, that could be cool.

Quiet and relaxing is definitely a must, whilst having places to visit and see.

My grand parents used to have a caravan in Salcombe, I never like it after the age of like 13, but then again we were in a caravan park, so touristy trash was to be expected.
However now, I have to say my favourite "in the UK" holiday destination is The Isles Of Scilly.
We have timeshares there and go twice a year, between us we usually have about 20 family members all there at the same time.
It has a variety of different islands depending on your tastes for a holiday.
Anything I have ever wanted out of a holiday I have found there, and you can go by Helicopter (20 minutes but no to flying so guess that is out of the question) or by the Scillonian, a nice big boat, 3 hours or so from penzanze but it is worth it IMO.
I took a friend with me one year, he enjoyed it, most of my family enjoy it, from the 3 year olds to the 90 year olds.
That is my recomendation, but it can be expensive, and if you don't like the whole Island hopping/stunning scenery/wildlife/friendly local communities/watersports and everything else I love about it, you won't enjoy it.
Biased view, having been going there since forever, but I love it, all the islands. Thumbs Up

I'd recommend Ilfracombe. It's stuck in the 70's and the pace of life is sooo slow! My nephew's a contracts manager there and says work grinds to a halt whenever the sun shines, that's how laid back it is!
We found loads to do and huge uncrowded beaches with clean water and sand dunes.
About 3 hour drive from Reading and definitely worth a visit if you want to change down a gear for a while and chill out...

Get up to the Hebrides, maybe do a boat trip or two, take in the big scenery, climb a hill if you like that sort of thing - very good place to chill out.

Long drive to get there though, but for 10 days, worth it.

If your considering going to Ireland, it would be cheaper and better to stay in a Cottage.

Somewhere nice and tranquil with lovely view, I can highly recommend shamrock cottages here https://www.shamrockcottages.co.uk/

Check out the Nare hotel in Cornwall, on the Roseland peninsula, beautiful area, good food, and lots to see and do.

Alternatively, Dublin is good Thumbs Up
Or Stow Lodge in Stow on the Wold. https://www.stowlodgehotel.co.uk/

Isle of Wight, there are some lovely places on the island...quaint pubs and lots of open spaces to go for long walks.

Jersey, Isle of Man, Scotland, Pembrokeshire in Wales - all lovely places, depends what you are into I guess

If you want to really suprise her tell her your just taking a boat to paris.
A few hours before you leave put some sleeping pills in her food Mr. T style, hey presto! When she wakes up she'll be in fiji with you overlooking the sea from your hotel balcony.

Try somewhere different. I went to Germany at the end of last year and it's suprisingly hot at certain times of the year, the culture is different to anywhere i've ever being, pubs and clubs don't close, the people are very welcoming and there is a hell of a lot to do their - It's just under rated.

Sooty Thumbs Up

Take the Eurostar to Nice, then either stay there or go to Cannes or Monaco. As it the Cote D'Azur you will have good weather - there are some fabulous hotels and in 7 or 10 days combine sitting by a pool with travelling around the sites & seeing the 'beautiful people'.

Enjoy

How about a 'cruise' to somewhere in the Mediterranean?

Think they take a few days to get there and might be a good start for a 'relaxing' holiday.
